the current stadium was built in 1994 & received up grades along the waycant they just give a refurb & place some cover over the stands?
you are fine with a brand new venue in townsville

but worked up over WA and SA getting new venues Subiaco was built in 1908 & football park in 1974
they are the only main venues in those cities of a few million + more! those venues are capable of hosting AFL, cricket & soccer & rugby games & AFL being the main code that regurargly gets large crowds in those states

A female rl comp? Seriously would they have the players in Victoria? They can't even field a men's team of Victorian players in the nrl.... I'm not sure how many rl women's teams there are. They certainly don't but am pointing out that there is very little presence of rl in Melbourne at all... hence no Victorians who have come through the system have played albeit maybe 1 or 2 ? There just isn't the lower levels like you would get for Aussie rules in sat qld or nsw. So you could mount an arguement for a small stadium in Brisbane given there is a strong presence at lower levels and indeed wonens AFL seems to be going crazy. 3 more girls teams on gc this year.

Whereas you really have nothing in Victoria ... figures are very very low I believe. Like there a dozen or so clubs in the state and not sure how many are adult? But hey, again, if the nrl want to pay for a ground and upgrade a soccer field (there aren't too many rugby l ones) or build one and they can get the gov to pitch in all power to them. There's a soccer ground in Morwell that holds several thousand they could convert. Difficulty is rl is not played that much in Victoria ... there but s virtually little in the way of clubs so not sure who would play. To be honest, if they could create the hype the Aflw had and get a female team going and play in a regional area I think you would get people there. I actually think that could be an in for rl in Victoria ... a woman's side or two in the regional towns... people would go if done right and interest in the game may flow on from that. Building or converting a stadium would work well I think. Great idea....

Why not? There is plenty of people who follow AFL and if the women's team takes off they may need a more boutique stadium. The mcg is half empty for many games but we have Etihad. They are even looking at a smaller one. So the women getting 5000 to 8000 say ... going forward may do better playing in a smaller stadium of say 10000 rather than hiring out the Gabba which would likely not be financially viable. But if you put this stadium in say Logan or near the airport ... well you also spread the game too. Planning for a positive future I guess. And if they sell it to the government by say adding a netball side attached to the lions ... and some courts and training facilities... do this with say a uni ... who knows maybe move the men's team training facility there as well then not only could the women play there but the men train there as well. There are endless possibilities and machinations that could be looked at and sold to the government.
