Rugby 7s, an improved version of Union

Post by NRL&NFLweLaughATafl »

Anyone else find Rugby 7s a lot better the Rugby Union?
I have a feeling Rugby Union is going to suffer the fate as traditional cricket in Australia.
Where the shorter faster version of the game gets more interest.

  7s first began in 1880 and the world circuits has been around since the 70's. it's not a new concept.

Sevens is great for developing young players as that is what most countries use it for. It's also another pathway for people to be introduced to the sport in a simpler way

Anyone who is a true rugby fan will tell you 7s is great fun to watch and play but 15s will always be king and taken a lot more seriously. You just need to look the attendance in tv views of the 2015 World Cup

Rugby sure needs something in Australia to bring it back from it's terminal decline. Unfortunately sevens tournaments will only be a periodic sugar hit. I fear Rugby will recede to it's levels of the 60's and 70's when it was solely a game for the rich, private school boys and universities.

Union of any variety is boring.

It will never get any better as RL exists and has made all the changes already.

Don't worry a lot of people feel the same way about RL just have a look at all the empty seats during the 4 nations

I never knew it had such a long history. But you can't deny Rugby 7s it getting a lot more attention than traditional Union in Australia at the moment.

Yeah I will always prefer league too. But I find 7s not a good alternative to Union.

During the Olympics it did with the woman winning gold, then once the sydney 7's is over you wont hear much about it because there is no club level 7's.

Difference with 7's and the big bash is that even as a shorter form of the game the big bash games still takes 3 hours to play so a proper weekly comp can be created with proper rounds. Where 1 game of 7's is over in 14 min so thats why its only really good for tournament style competitions which it has with the world circuit.
