I have heard AFL people comparing their traditional teams culture and following to Manchester United.

Not likely, but it would be almost as funny as NRL clubs claiming they will be bigger than the biggest AFL clubs.

In Feb 2011 Cantebury predicted they would be bigger than Collingwood within a few years. nearly 6 years later Im still waiting for it.

''There's no reason the Bulldogs can't grow to become bigger than the most popular AFL club,'' Mortimer said yesterday. ''I believe there are several NRL clubs - the Dragons, Rabbitohs and Eels are the others - with the potential to do that.

''But I'm convinced, from seeing how strong the Bulldogs brand has become and watching how the club operates, that they will do it first, and that it will happen within three to five years.''

True the Bulldogs are not even close to collingwood. But then again Collingwood is not even close to any of those English Premier League football clubs either.

Nobody knows they exist outside Australia as they have no international following.

Premier league football is a global brand.
