More Fremantle Dockers trouble after Shane Yarran charged with assault

Another Fremantle Dockers player may be in hot water after mature-aged recruit player Shane Yarran was charged with assault.

The 27-year-old, who made his debut for the Dockers this season, has told the club he plans to plead not guilty and the club has said it understands the incident involves a family member.

Yarran's assault charge comes days after a Bunbury school teacher accused Michael Johnson of assaulting him in a Leederville kebab shop, in an incident he claims occurred when he filmed the 2013 All-Australian with his pants down at 3am on Sunday.

Fremantle CEO Steve Rosich said Yarran advised the club of the incident on Monday.

"As the matter is now before the courts, the club will not comment beyond this statement until the matter is resolved," he said.

"An allegation of this nature is treated with the utmost seriousness by the club and we will continue to monitor the legal process closely."

He said the club had advised the AFL of the matter.

It's not the first time Yarran, who was taken by the Dockers with pick 61 in the 2015 national draft, has been in hot water.

In 2013, he was released from jail after being sentenced to six years for burglary.

In July, the former Bernie Naylor Medallist was fined $800 by the Perth Magistrate's Court after pleading guilty to one count of disorderly behaviour in public, and one count of failing to obey a move-on notice.

NRL boss Todd Greenberg made contact with the partner of Ben Barba to check on her welfare at what has been a highly stressful time for the family – and he has assured her that Barba's NRL career is not over.

Dave Smith, the old boss of the NRL, wasn't sure who Barba was. He famously referred to a player called "Benji Barba" at the 2013 season launch. It was an easy mistake, but one that defined his career.

However there is no such confusion with Greenberg, Smith's successor. He faced a full investigation into allegations he covered up allegations of domestic violence involving Barba and his partner, Ainslee, while chief executive at the Bulldogs. Greenberg was cleared and took up a senior role with the NRL.

Since then, he has maintained a keen interest in Barba's life.

You my friend may be the most stupid man in the country. In fact make that the world. For every NRL atrocity there is a fumbleball equivalent or worse. How's Lachie Whitfield and the western Sydney fumblers cover up squad goin' ya dill? What about Jobey handing back his drug tainted Brownstain medal???? Took 4 years for Fumblehouse to call that in after multiple cover ups failed.

What about a few of the games legends - Benny 'show me the drugs' Cousins, Wayney 'there's not a team mates wife I haven't banged' Carey and Gary 'I gotta get out of this motel room quick cause this chicks dead' Ablett Snr. Yep you're on a winner here pal. Rolled gold first class fool!!!!!

North Queensland Cowboys former player Anthony Watts to spend Christmas in jail

AAP
November 28, 2016 10:05am

FORMER professional rugby league player Anthony Watts will spend Christmas behind bars after he was denied bail.

Watts, 30, made a brief appearance via video-link on Monday at Tweed Heads Local Court on several charges, including common assault and dangerous driving. The former NRL player and ex-bikie is accused of assaulting an elderly man in the northern NSW town of Murwillumbah on Thursday.

Police allege Watts waved a gun and assaulted 73-year-old William Ernest Woodford outside a business before driving off.

Watts then allegedly failed to stop when his car was spotted on Tweed Valley Way about two hours after the alleged assault.

The former North Queensland and Sydney Roosters player was arrested after a short pursuit by police.

Watts’ lawyer Andrew Moloney told the court he was yet to speak to his client and needed more time to take instructions.

Watts was refused bail and the matter has been adjourned until January 9.

A RUGBY league star has been lashed by a magistrate for a “not very convincing” reason he missed a hearing on domestic violence charges.
Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra left for Fiji on November 23 because his father was seriously unwell with pulmonary tuberculosis, he claims. His barrister Murugan Thangaraj, SC, presented a letter to Magistrate Tim Keady from a doctor which detailed his condition — but the magistrate said the letter “wasn’t very convincing”.
“This tells me nothing other than his father suffers what appears to be a long-term illness,” he said. “There is nothing in it to indicate any reason for [not appearing]. Nothing that could justify a sudden departure from Australia.”
He revoked the 24-year-old’s bail and issued a warrant for his arrest that will be released on Wednesday if Radradra isn’t able to provide “something of a more compelling nature” to support his absence.
A statement released by the Parramatta Eels confirmed Radrada’s ill father as the reason he missed the hearing.
“The Parramatta National Rugby League Club was informed by Semi Radradra last Wednesday that it was his understanding from family, including his mother, that his father was gravely ill,” Club Chief Executive Bernie Gurr said in a statement released Monday afternoon.
“In consultation with his legal team and Semi’s management, the Club granted Semi compassionate leave to return home to Fiji. This was granted on the proviso that Semi and his management complied with any requirements from the court.
“The Club understands the stress a family illness can provide and at all times we are considerate of the welfare of both Semi and his family.”
Radradra pleaded not guilty to assault causing domestic violence-related actual bodily harm and two counts of domestic violence-related common assault at a hearing in July.

Just to highlight the hypocritical moronic thinking of El Dingbat

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/AFL/f ... 2fed050a34

A FORMER AFL player who almost killed his girlfriend of two months in a vicious, alcohol-fuelled bashing has been sentenced to more than five years in jail.

Albert Proud, 27, played 29 games for the Brisbane Lions before being sacked in 2011 due to a litany of alcohol-related, off-field incidents.

On Monday, the Brisbane District Court heard he was drunk the night of November 8, 2015 when he “just snapped” and bashed his then-girlfriend Richelle Kadadi so severely, she lost more than a litre of blood.

Ms Kadadi spent more than a month in hospital recovering from head injuries.

The court heard alcohol gave the normally calm Proud a “Jekyll and Hyde” type persona, and in sentencing, Judge Tony Moynihan said, “you are a danger to members of the community when you are drunk”.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and wilful damage, before being sentenced to five and a half years in jail.

With time already served, he will be eligible for parole in October, 2017.

Ms Kadadi lost a litre of blood and spent more than a month in hospital.
Crown prosecutor Joshua Hanna said Proud became violent after he and Ms Kadadi, who had been together for only two-and-a-half months, attended a wedding and then a party.

The one-time athlete had been affectionate earlier in the evening but his mood shifted after Ms Kadadi handed him his wet clothes as they left the party, where he’d been pushed into a pool, he said.

The court heard Proud threw the items onto the roof of the house and said “who f****ing cares” when she asked him why he’d done it.

When they got into the car he started striking the windscreen and gearstick before eventually attacking his then-partner at a home at Sunnybank, in Brisbane’s south.

Mr Hanna said she recalled being punched so hard in the chest she thought she was having a heart attack because of the “excruciating pain”.

She suffered at least two blows to her head after the strike to her chest, was strangled and grabbed by her shoulders and arms.

Richelle Kadadi before the attack. She suffers ongoing memory loss.
Later, the bride and groom from the wedding drove past the house and saw the “terrified” woman run onto the road, her clothes stretched from someone pulling them, the court heard.

“She said she’d been bashed (and) thought she was going to die,” Mr Hanna said.

Ms Kadadi lost a litre of blood and suffered from post-traumatic amnesia in the wake of the attack.

In his submissions, defence barrister Greg McGuire said Proud himself couldn’t explain why he had lashed out so violently, telling the court: “Something just snapped in him”.

“Albert Proud sober is different from Albert Proud drunk,” Mr McGuire said, adding his relationship with alcohol had “devastating consequences” for both Proud and his victim.

Judge Moynihan said the attack had a “catastrophic” impact in Ms Kadadi.

“This ordeal has had a profound effect on her life,” he said, noting Proud’s criminal history included assaults on other women.

A former rugby league star will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow facing allegations of domestic violence.

The retired player’s wife has been named in an application to the court seeking a domestic violence order.

The former player, who cannot be named, has been actively involved in the sport since his retirement.

It is not believed he faces any criminal charges.

Details of the case emerged on the eve of tonight’s third game in the State of Origin series, which was already won by Queensland last month by beating NSW 26-16 at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

The former rugby league star is not expected to be dealt with in a criminal sense unless he breaches conditions laid out in the order, with penalties including a maximum three- years’ imprisonment.

The two standard conditions of DVOs include “good behaviour” towards the applicant, including any children if named in the order, and to not commit domestic violence.

A magistrate will assess the DVO and can make a temporary protection order until a protection order is determined.

The NRL has this year endured several high-profile alleged domestic violence-related incidents, including assault charges levelled against Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra, which he has denied.

Radradra, 24, pleaded not guilty to three domestic violence charges after police alleged he assaulted his former partner several times at the couple’s home in 2014 and 2015.

In March, the former Canterbury Bulldogs winger Hazem El Masri — who was a White Ribbon ambassador — successfully challenged allegations of domestic violence made against him by his second wife, Douah El Cherif.

After the assault charges against him were dropped, Mr El Masri urged domestic violence victims to continue to report incidents to police.

South Sydney Rabbitohs star centre Kirisome Auva’a served a nine-month NRL suspension for a domestic assault charge, after pleading guilty to recklessly causing injury to his ex-girlfriend.

In May, the NRL announced it would commit “additional resources” to its campaign against domestic violence.

In recent years, the code has joined with anti-domestic violence partners Our Watch, White Ribbon and Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia to develop new techniques and education tools in the campaign against domestic violence.

The NRL also launched a television advertising campaign to urge watchfulness against domestic violence. At the time, the chief executive of Our Watch chief executive Mary Barry, congratulated the NRL for its stand.

“This isn’t a sporting issue or a rugby league issue,’’ Ms Barry said. “However sport has the opportunity to play an important role in preventing violence against women and their children.’’
