AFL players paying for Etihad and Expansion

Post by eelofwest »

The AFL has intensified its financial commitment to hardship suffered by footballers, pledging to inject $26 million over the next six years into a series of programs dealing with post-career injuries and mental health issues along with drug, alcohol and gambling education.

With the pay dispute between the AFL and its players still unresolved, negotiations will intensify over the coming weeks as union boss Paul Marsh and his team respond to the six-year wage and conditions offer put forward by the competition.

In a pre-emotive strike on Tuesday, clubs were told that the total player payments would increase by 10 per cent next year which has placed significant pressure on clubs struggling to stay under the salary cap considering that the figure in reality remains closer to a 6per cent increase given the removal of the veterans' allowance.

Due to the lack of agreement between the league and the AFL Players Association, the clubs have been granted a two-week extension to submit their TPP (Total Player Payment) estimates with the new deadline set for November9. The view of several list managers is that the 10 per cent figure still remains negotiable in terms of the 2017 TPP.

The tabled AFL offer to the players begins with the 10 per cent increase in 2017 followed by a further four per cent in 2018 and an annual three per cent increase over the final four years of the new broadcast rights agreement.

While the 10 per cent increase looks certain to be rejected by the players who claim that figure remains a fall in terms of the game's total revenue, the two parties appear aligned in terms of the AFL's new commitment to marketing programs along with the radical boost in welfare money.

The AFL's offer to the players and clubs is pathetic.

The AFLPA will be fuming, essentially they are being asked to take %10 increase in the cap which is peanuts.

AFL salary cap would be 11m with no extra funding for the clubs if this deal offered got up.
NRL salarycap would be about 10-11m rising to 13m by the end of the TV deal with every club receiving 3-4million extra over the cap in funding.

The AFL screwing the players and making them pay for Etihad stadium and for Expansion.

AFLPA strike incoming people, get the popcorn out and enjoy the show ....

Very doubtful it would happen but if a breakaway Comp was started then some AFL fans would realise how much damage it does to a game .

Will be interesting to see who blinks first .

The aflpa is a very powerful union and we have seen them have the AFL cave in before to their demands with them almost striking. I remember the big meetings on the news etc and it was a big deal.

Like i said, what the AFL is offering is rubbish compared to the NRL.

AFLHQ Wants the AFL players to take less % wise then last deal so they can buy Etihad and continue to fund the black holes of GWS and GCS and now the Brisbane lions.

You would think that the AFL would show some more respect for the clubs and players knowing that they are making all the sacrifices in this fiasco.

Some very interesting times ahead for the AFLPA and the Clubs. Knowing that the NRL funding model shits all over the AFL equivalent will not sit well with them imo.

What a bunch of tight arses at AFL hq. They pay their executives huge coinage from the tv deals in the billions.
And here they are holding back on the actual players that make the money that people want to see.

I'm not an AFL fan as you all know. But I hate seeing corporate fat cats in any business treating employees badly.

Bearing in mind that the AFL makes a fuck ton more money than league overall, even if the percentage is lower, the AFL deal is still not likely to be any worse than the NRL one, let alone rubbish. You, as usual, are talking out your arse.
The AFL's club distributions will be less % wise than what the NRL is giving its clubs.

AFL salary cap atm 10m

now that article mentioned a %10 increase first year then 3% there after.

11m then increases of %3 the next 5 years. AFL annual revenue with new TV money will be about 680m

NRL cap will be about 10.5m +4m each in increased funding directly to the clubs. NRL revenue with new TV money is about 560m

If this article is anywhere close to the mark then the AFL is distributing less money towards its club % wise than the NRL.

Like i said the AFL clubs and its players are paying for the Etihad purchase and those 2 black holes in GWS and Suns.
