Even funnier NRLwelaughatoursmallPenises is the fact in two states this is the ONLY game their interested in a gimmick!
Haha that name you have is priceless.

Is a pretty good gimmick State of Origin hey mate. 30 plus years.
I think Luna Park is over 100 yrs - it's fun but at the end of the day no one takes it seriously! RL SOO come from any state of Australia (or country for that matter) and play for either NSW or QLD your choice = gimmick! Hahaha such it up princess them the facts!
Such it up princess? Yeah that makes alot of sense. =D>
Maybe learn to string a sentence together properly first.

Well I guess you could say AFL is an ignored fad. A much older sport than rugby league. Yet the AFL fad just keeps getting ignored by all the other sporting countries.
:(/
IS PRETTY HARD TO SELL A LEMON CALLED AFL TO OTHER NATIONS.
Lol league is just another international lemon! All younhave to do is look at the Union! Popular all over the would, professional leagues! Then you have league :(/

I think most AFL fans think its a gimmick because we also had SOO and it just didnt get the amount of support from the players and fans that the home and away season did. People remember premiers, not which state won SOO in some contrived team. It has nothing really to do with how often it occurs

For argument sake
If SOO is a gimmick ..
Then it must be distressing for you fumblers that a GIMMICK is yr after yr BIGGER than any AFL game .

Wow the same gimmick is bigger than the fumble final .

It's the tribalism of state v state that drives SOO. NSW v Qld for bragging rights. Two strong states at RL. You can see the way the media get into it. The talk is about the event, not so much the sport itself.

I honestly dont care TBH. I went to the last AFL SOO at the MCG. Would rather go to my clubs game any day, and the fans around me were exactly the same. maybe if Victoria had 1 strong opposition state only the AFL would have similar state v state passion, but you cant manufacture something that just isnt there

But we also get the best playing the best from each state every week, we get the crowd and atmospher - RL doesn't have the crowd and atmospher every week that's why SOO is so important to them - it's a gimmick because they need this to fill a void in there major competition - otherwise the NRL becomes a feeder competition to the SOO competition. Either way one has to be devalued at the expense of the other.

That's why you feel the need to reply because when there's a criticism that stands up you can't handle it - I don't care about SOO, if your like some of the RL posters on here they don't care what we say either only you - that's because underneath it all you secretly have the same doubts otherwise you wouldn't react!

Do not think it is a gimmick but so what if it is! It is great to watch most times and a lot people enjoy it at some level across the nation. In saying that it is true that it works so well due to most players in the nrl being from the two states involved. I do not think it would have the same interest if it were to be a national game and could feild competitive teams from other states ... Or a team.

It would be good to see say a nz team play though or sonething like that.. Say plays the winner or a combined islander team. You could say there are test matches for that but i think more interest would be in say nsw v nz than aust v nz .. But i may be wrong . just a thought.

Everyone remembers Queensland winning 8 times in a row. Is plain to see AFL fans are all very jealous knowing that their sport can't successfully run an event like State of Origin.
They tried in the past and failed miserably. There has even been talk of AFL trying to bring it back because they know state of Origin is bigger than every single AFL game and is even rivalling their Grand Final now.

So jealous we consider it every year but end up saying no, because in the end its meaningless.

The Aussie rules SOO certainly wasnt a failure, it just became meaningless when the AFL went national

how so spazza!
SOO state vs state, people interested watching one state vs another state!
if you were a normal person, eg had a job or not in a nursing home, you'd understand, how people or pubs have SOO parties, eg an excuse mid week to head out to socialize & have a few beers!

how awesome it it just the following day, peoples interest in league just vanishes :\:
every year, the following week only a few has any interest in the NRLOL
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million
