United Patriots Front 'explains' why anti-Muslim banner was unfurled at MCG
AFL slams racist fans over anti-Muslim banner
A spokesman for the anti-Muslim group responsible for unfurling a racist banner at the MCG during an AFL game last night has made wide-ranging predictions about the impact of the action online.
Members of the United Patriots Front (UPF) stretched a banner reading "Go Pies, stop the mosques" beneath a scoreboard at the Collingwood versus Richmond game
An MCG spokesperson has told 9NEWS the banner breached the conditions of entry, and was quickly removed by security staff. Those responsible were also evicted, and the AFL is investigating.
A few hours after the game, a spokesman for the UPF took to Facebook to make a series of wide-ranging "predictions" about the impact of the banner being displayed.
He said that the banner unfurling either would or would not attract attention, and that the AFL would take action.
"Why was that banner taken to the MCG tonight? To the Collingwood Richmond game? What were we trying to achieve? Are we just trying to stir up trouble and draw attention to ourselves? No, actually," the spokesman said in a video.
"It was done so I could make a set of predictions for you to prove something. First of all, the banner itself said 'Stop the Mosques', which is not so unreasonable, really, considering that you've just had a massacre in Brussels… in Paris… Lindt café siege…"
"From here, one of two things is going to happen… either the AFL and the media will ignore us… or they will yell, scream and stamp their feet."
He said the "feeling police" on social media had already reacted with outrage, and also "predicted" that the AFL would act on the behaviour.
The AFL has condemned the banner "in the strongest terms" and was investigating, it said in a statement.
"The AFL is aware that an offensive banner was displayed at the MCG during tonight's round two game between Richmond and Collingwood," a league spokesman said.
"Match-day security removed the banner when they became aware of it and evicted the patrons responsible.
"The AFL condemns the behaviour in the strongest terms and such actions have no place in society and not in our game."
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire has called for the people responsible to be banned from football for life.
"I hope the police got their names and numbers, if they've got anything to do with our club they'll be banned," he said.
"Get these people and make an example of them. They should be banned for life."

Re: There at it Again!
the banner was anti muslim, not racist, unless you think the muslim faith is unique to one race. The AFL took swift action suggesting they were strongly against it, what more can they do?
You really need to learn when to use 'their', 'there' and 'they're'. Just saying

racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior:

Again which race was declaring superiority to what other race???? This is about religion not race - this is Australia where someone can express an opinion after all - we don't have sharia in Australia even if that's what YOU prefer!pussycat wrote:racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior:

While I would agree with anyone who says that a football game is not an appropriate place to express opinions about politics or religion - they still have that right even if I don't agree with it - like the saying goes "while I don't agree with what you say I will defend your right to say it!"pussycat wrote:racism: prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior:

Anglo Saxon boss denies Asian man a job because he's Asian = racist
Anglo Saxon Christian denies Anglo Saxon Muslim a job due to his faith = not racist, certainly intolerant and discrimination but not racist because he is not offering him the job because of his skin colour but the other persons beliefs. Whether you agree or disagree with the statement it doesn't make it racist. But its not really the question whether it is racist rather whether it was appropriate for it to be at a football game. Considering both the AFL uses the game as a platform to express their opinions maybe they have to expect contrary views to be expressed even if the majority disagree.

With attitudes like this is it any wonder racism is rampant within the AFL !
