Will Ratings have much of a Bearing on TV deals in Future
Will try to have a serious discussion here .
Besides all the streaming etc which is ever increasing how much will ratings play in future rights
For now they're what we have ...
Reliable or not is up for debate but it's what we got & multi billion dollar deals are done on these rating results .
As for myself I've had Fox for nearly 20 yrs ..
But lately I watch most on my I pad or I phone
With Foxtel GO ( most subscribers get it for free ) you can register 3 mobile devices & have 2 watching at the one time .
I have my 2 devices registered plus my mate has it on his ph ...he's never had fox .
My daughter has fox & does the same except she has 2 friends using it
One of my work friends does the same .
So there is a shitload on non subscribers watching Fox(all sports) who aren't subscribers .
I suspect most subscribers would be doing the same .
1 subscription can mean 3 different people viewing at once
As this sort of thing becomes more prolific official ratings will mean less, & be far less accurate than now.
So what does that mean for future $$$$$$$$$
Or do the bigger sports do their own streaming for games not on the anti siphoning list

Have said for a while now this is the last of the big pay Rv deals, streaming will substantially affect tv revenues. Watched a special report on free tv losing money hand over fist due to streaming. It's a brave new world! But on the plus - AFL and NRL will launch their own streaming companies in the not too distant futures which will help promote both codes rather than rely on a third party - I think the possibilities are endless.

Re: Will Ratings have much of a Bearing on TV deals in Future
Whilst I agree that TV ratings are still important - streaming will give access without adds which will enhance the value. Might not be 5 yrs but I think 10 years the landscape will be different.The_Wookie wrote:Its easy to say that the NRL and AFL will have their own streaming companies, but Im not sure they'll be willing to forego guaranteed cash from the networks and fox - especially now that the networks are doing their own live streams. You might see Nine and Seven chase the digital rights next time as part of the packages.
Ratings will still matter - its the measurement mostly used to determine advertising rates after all, although there are other traffic measurements to consider - and there are already groups out there doing audience measurements on streaming - Nielson have started and MCN are already doing it.

does this mean we could possibly see Telstra be a bigger player in the next broadcast deal. they would have to be the only current Australian streaming provider with a network capable of hosting such a service. Optus stream the cricket, but their service has nowhere near the capabilities as TelstraThe_Wookie wrote:Its easy to say that the NRL and AFL will have their own streaming companies, but Im not sure they'll be willing to forego guaranteed cash from the networks and fox - especially now that the networks are doing their own live streams. Re: Will Ratings have much of a Bearing on TV deals in Future
very true with the catch up streamingservices. do they all host their own services?The_Wookie wrote:I think the networks will be just as big a player when it comes to streaming next time. They are all getting into their own live streams of all their channels at the moment.
not sure how any of the larger over seas codes do their service, but with the AFL being the largest player in Australia & liketo be in control of their product, they might start investing into their own streaming service

Haha subs might wipe the swans and kitty cats out, the two new clubs have no chance, imagine trying to survive with subscription service you pay for when the TV ratings for 4 decades in nsw or Sydney more specifically have more or less averaged 25k.
Good luck with that
But but but we have 50 million budgies signed up with our membership pack, we call it the Farmbase.

Yeah and I was the first to take seriously but why come down to that level? Can't you ignore it and debate issues rather than contradict issues?? I would take you seriously if you did all I'm saying.AFLcrap1 wrote:Um I started this thread swines .Swans4ever wrote:Oh dear serious discussion brought down by dumb and dumber!

defiantly as the FTA stuff is available to every one, where most of the other forms require people to pay or have a decent internet connectionIntentcity wrote:TV will remain King for a long time yet, old habits die hard, but I reckon from now on we'll start seeing the other forms of media taking more of the pie, and that'll just increase as time goes on.

Of course you are cursed, you were born down there where everything is backwards or don't work, tv and the net as you say and the footy you watch.
