The vfl have been flogging memberships for half a freaking century or more you idiot, thus they have built a membership culture. The NRL is relatively new at this membership game and have gone from virtually 0 members to where they now end up with over 200,000 by seasons start. Just another fuckwit twisting things to suit an agenda.
My club once they get their new ground will smash the swans in memberships if they continue to take big games to anz, bearsie knows this, he fears the eels hitting a purple patch and having a stadium with a decent capacity again.
It's funny, when the eels go well, the swans usually go shit and their crowds die right off, the opposite happens when the eels go bad, been bad for a long time now whilst the AFL have continually propped up the swans to keep them up the top of the ladder, they'll fall this year, eels are rising.
AFL has for many many yrs went the membership angle .
RL has always been the leagues club angle .
Support your club through being a member of your leagues club ....gaming money was & is still a big part of that .
Yet now the NRL is pushing the membership angle & trying to get clubs to cut back on relying on leagues club money .
Many AFL clubs are heading down that gaming revenue route ..

what I find with memberships
it does not mean bigger crowds..
nrl has been on the up year on year for no gain.
memberships non existant in 2005 and we had our biggest year.

Depends on who is doing well, for near a decade now the more unpopular teams have more or less been up the top.

correct. AFL memberships are also increasing but not translating to bigger crowds. People are just engaging with their clubs more rather than paying at the gate for public seatingleeroy*NRL* wrote:what I find with memberships

Re: Fight Club - Memberships
But your forgetting that memberships now come in 3, 5, 7 and h & a so that diversity means your membership can be so much more but not affect attendance, the real value is how it translates to greater sponsorship because bigger membership base bigger reach.Intentcity wrote:As I pointed out on the previous page, Collingwoods crowd average has changed very little over the last 25 years or so but our membership base has exploded, I'm not sure how many members we had 25 years ago but I reckon it'll struggle to be 10k, we now have 80k members with very little increase in crowd sizes, mind you it's hard to increase crowd sizes when you average what the biggest sporting club in Australia does, 50k give or take over the last couple of decades.leeroy*NRL* wrote:what I find with memberships

Just looked it up, Collingwood has averaged less than 40k 4 times since 1985, but we're still scared of the Eels though lol.

But that's really only value adding to your membership - the bigger advantage is demand - e.g.Intentcity wrote:Argh very true, but you're also forgetting the price of premium memberships has exploded, look up "Collingwood legend member" you'll probably be advised there's a waiting list, those memberships are very expensive, way out of reach for the average fan.Swans4ever wrote:But your forgetting that memberships now come in 3, 5, 7 and h & a so that diversity means your membership can be so much more but not affect attendance, the real value is how it translates to greater sponsorship because bigger membership base bigger reach.Intentcity wrote:As I pointed out on the previous page, Collingwoods crowd average has changed very little over the last 25 years or so but our membership base has exploded, I'm not sure how many members we had 25 years ago but I reckon it'll struggle to be 10k, we now have 80k members with very little increase in crowd sizes, mind you it's hard to increase crowd sizes when you average what the biggest sporting club in Australia does, 50k give or take over the last couple of decades.leeroy*NRL* wrote:what I find with memberships

Sponsor - we want to maintain our current level of support
Col. We have grown by 5% which means our total supporter base has grown by 5%. Last year 70k members this year 72k total supporter base 700k last year this year 720k. Therefore 5% more in sponsorship.
Sponsor - ok

For a club that likes to boast how big it's apparent supporter base is, that figure is pretty embarrassing I would think.ParraEelsNRL wrote:
