TWO Brisbane men charged over the rape of a third during an Australia Day party are aspiring Australian rules footballers, a court has heard.

A 19-year-old man faced Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday charged with rape over the January 26 incident, which allegedly involved four perpetrators and a beer bottle and was filmed and posted on social media.

The 19-year-old’s lawyer asked that bail conditions banning the accused men from having contact with each other be relaxed, saying his client was a “quality” footballer who was on a training squad with another of the accused men.

The Courier Mail is reporting the two are members of the Lions Academy — a talent ID squad that trains once a week at the Lions.


Police said earlier this month the alleged victim was unaware he had been assaulted until he allegedly received a link to the video sent by a friend.
