Cetainly changes things up a bit for the NRL. Id like to note though that these are the Australian rights for the EPL. There are no 'Australian" rights per se for the NRL, its segmented, like the AFL ones.

The only issues I see here:

- Fetch is classed as IPTV I believe, which at least for the AFL was a separate rights matter to PAY TV. Even if Optus won some rights, it wouldnt necessarily rule out Telstra.
- Optus have no live broadcast capacity, they'd have to develop their own if they take it from Fox. The NRL has no live broadcast capacity of its own. This could be contracted out. (both cricket and epl broadcasts would be sourced from overseas with token australian commentary/hosting)
- if Optus takes digital rights, then NRL Media might be in for a tough time (half owned by Telstra)

You can note whatever you like Wookie.

Nothing is going to change the fact that foxtels business is under increasing pressure from all sides making the NRL rights a must for Foxtel.

With this announcement the NRL rights deal has just skyrocketed and we still have a year to make Patrick Delaney and Co squirm.

NRL are in the Box seat without a doubt.

Smiths/Grants ploy of letting this play out for the next year or so seems to be right on the money.. =D>
