Yep & not one of them is capable of answering the question I keep asking .

They continually talk about Fox not paying much as they will have NO competition in bidding(that remains to be seen) ....but let's say there is no one...only fox .
The theory is the NRL won't get too much as there is no competition .

My question is who the fuck was in competition with fox for the NON FTA games of AFL .
My answer would be that negotiating pay TV and FTA together made it more difficult for either News or Seven to pay unders for the AFL rights. The AFL negotiators could threaten to give more to Seven unless News paid x or vice versa.

It is similar to the NRL not wanting to sell the streaming rights separately from the pay TV rights.

In his national press club talk, McLachlan said that the AFL negotiators had considered it beneficial to negotiate the entire rights all at once but that if they'd felt they had to, they would have done what the NRL negotiators had done. To me this suggests that negotiating FTA separately was probably not ideal for the NRL but became the best alternative given the negotiating tactics of Nine, News and others.

Just guessing, but to me the NRL's negotiating position with News does not seem a strong one.

Even so, maybe the strategy enabled more to be extracted from Nine than would otherwise have been the case. (?)
Lol .
So the answer is no competition .
