Victorians In Love With The Greatest Game Of All!

Post by pussycat »

A crowd of 90k are expected after the Vic government payed a reported 3.5m to attract Origin. Is there any wonder ? most people South of the Murray are starved of real sport.

"What about the game, it was unbelievable," Lyon said at the start of the AFL Footy Show, which aired nationally at about 10.45pm.

"Sam Newman agreed, saying "what a game", before Brownless added: "I loved the game. What do you think, will we see it back in AFL football - the State of Origin, Gaz?".

"How good would it be," Lyon replied. "I think we are missing out on something. I am not sure it is going to happen from an AFL's point of view but to see those players from NSW and Queensland put their club loyalties aside and go at it in the manner that they did we are missing out at AFL level, there is no question about that. Right now we could absolutely do with a State of Origin."

SOO is an event, and if done properly its worthy of a high level of interest. But dont mistake that for love of the game. Otherwise Australia love soccer (because of the WC), or swimming (because of the Olympics).

The tickets have been on sale now for 8 or 9 months at least. They have been discounted to $50 and the event is still not sold out.

How's the Melbourne Storm going?
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

Same could be said for Western Australia. Heard Souths vs New Zealand match got 20,000 plus last night.
A record crowd for Souths in Perth too.
Growing Rugby League in the USA.

BS. If RL was truly popular in Victoria it wouldnt rate 6k for a home and away game. The storm wouldnt be the lowest crowd drawing team of the 10 AFL and 2 A league clubs. The SOO attracts interest for the spectacle it is, not for the code sport itself

So funny how leaguers think it is great how the crowd at Perth and Melbourne is like.

Premiers and one of the most followed team in the NRL vs. an entire country of 4.5 million people only attracted 20k and I have Friends and Family in Perth and they said prior to that game there was big advertising and heaps of ticket deals.

And the game in Melbourne, RL's biggest event took months for the game to get close to 90k at MCG, 10k short of sell-out and they discounted tickets against two of the biggest states in Australia and RL.

Is that a joke? It might be a bit funnier if you hadn't recorded just 13k in Sydney last night . And Saturday night is much better for ratings than a Sunday arvo game, and last night was far from the Sydney's worst ratings this year.
