50,000 Tickets Pre-Sold For MCG State Of Origin

NRL Boss Dave Smith has revealed 50,000 pre-sale tickets have been sold to the first State of Origin game at the MCG, in 18 years

NRL Boss Dave Smith has revealed 50,000 pre-sale tickets have been sold to the first State of Origin game at the MCG, in 18 years.

Smith dropping in to the Hot Breakfast to talk up the Blues and Maroons battle in Melbourne on June 17.

"I'd say it's the greatest sporting rivalry in the country," Smith said on Triple M's The Hot Breakfast.

"We're lucky enough to have this big brand called Origin.

"We're bringing it fittingly down to the 'G, hopefully it's going to be the biggest crowd we've ever had for Origin."

=D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
and that wouldn't include members so its well over 60,000 in reality , with hardly an ounce of promotion at this stage & still

this games crowd could well top 90,000 & be the 2nd biggest sporting attendance in Melbourne & Australia for 2015

Yes it just goes to show how much the melbornians love their league. And there'll be another 300-400 k watching it on the box in melbourne. Or put differently, one in every two to three households will have rl on their teles in melbs that eve

no, its very standard for every sporting event in Melbourne, it has little to do with the fact the game is RL. Melbournites will always attend Cricket, golf, F1, soccer, tennis or any other reasonable event in good numbers

If Melbourne love their league or if Melbourne residents love sport in general and the MCG is evidence of this, lets run a little experiment.

Club teams

Biggest AFL teams in the world, one would be Collingwood, could one argue Geelong or Carlton (I don't know, I need some AFL fans help with that one)
Question, do they get over 90,000 at the MCG for regular season games? Yes

Biggest Football teams in the world, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City???? Barcelona, Chelsea.
Do they sell out or get over 90,000 people at the MCG, well Man City v Real, yes they do

Biggest League teams in the world? South Sydney, Brisbane Broncos, Roosters?
Do they sell out the MCG or get over 90,000, nope hell two of those teams couldn't even get more than 30,000 to ANZ in their own city.

if they loved RL the only Melbourne nrl team would have a crowd average at least as much as the lowest average AFL team. As it is the storm average almost 7k less than the lowest Melbourne AFL team, the bulldogs. Says it all really

And it will likely still be outsold by the Anzac day game between Essendon and Collingwood which regularly tops 90 like its nothing.

Yet your game will rate 1 out of 4 compared.

Maybe if you are lucky.

because the game only represents 2 teams, not 2 states. The AFL's ANZAC day game outrates every AFL and NRL home and away game by some margin

No it doesn't.

It rates around 1.2 million, rl gets that near every friday night when big teams are playing.

RL has all the high rating games, not the VFL, have a look.

it will be one of less than half a dozen games RL gets over 50k for the entire year, including finals. The AFL will get well over a dozen
