and yet it does, the 100 million is a massive bargaining point, huge exposure for Australian Brands, just like the ACL now the Wanderers have won it will be.

The NRL know it, but clearly the fan boys aren't bright enough.

100 million watched the socceroos
Well you let us know when there is any tangible financial benefit to soccer in this country as a result. Broadcast rights for the ACL and Asian Cup are held by the Asian Confederation not the FFA, so local soccer benefits not a whit. The Socceroos have massive support in this country - and thats cool - but it disasppears when they arent actually playing.
Rather strange statement their wookie. The support for the socceroos disappears when they are not playing? Rather obvious and not sure how you measure that. It also holds true for any sporting team especially National. How much support is there for the Australian Cricket team when they are not playing? or the Hockeyroos, or the Wallabies.

How do you measure support when a team is not playing?

I think what Wookie was saying..
Is when the socceroos are playing, Everyone gets behind them,
but once it is all over, "these Soccer People just disappear and do not follow the A League.
it does not translate into anything.

People just hop on the bandwagon when there winning...

NSW BLUES FOR EXAMPLE lost 8 straight series
But NSW BLUES Just seemed to get more Popular..

I could not say the same if this happened to the socceroos.

Socceroos pretty much lost or drew past 5 games coming into the Asian Cup and still pulled a full house, I really dont see the difference there Leeroy.

Leading into the tournament the socceroos were not performing that well, they were building, they were learning a new style under a new coach.

so again not really seeing what point was trying to be made there
Football in NSW
- Football 200,868
- AFL NSW/ACT 28,468
- Rugby League 96,041
- Rugby Union 40,685
Football has 22% more players than the other football codes combined

I wouldnt even consider the sookerwhos have massive support

The Kangaroos certainly arent thought of as having massive support
But their biggest game in recent times
The world cup final here in 2008 got 3.2 million

While the sookerwhos biggest
Got just 2.2 million

this suggestion the sookerwhos have massive support

Just doesnt stack up
RL SOO II 4.194 Million veiwers
RL SOO I 4.068 Million
NRL GF 3.968 Million
VFL Grand Final 3.620 Million
SOO III 3.364 Million
NRL Prelim 2.219 Million
Kangaroos V NZ 1.214 Million

Sookerwhos V Japan 238K

GOOD POINT
was that 2008 world cup even showed live to some parts of Australia.....
what a great final that was!

But that is massive numbers for the R.L

I wonder how many of those 2.2mill will watch the A league for the rest of season..
I would say 20%
