Ahh whatever clown you guys got beaten fair a square in the TV grand final rating by NRL.
State of Origin 1 & 2 smashed your grandfinal too

Just look at facebook, is one of the most used websites on the internet. Over 275,000 more followers for NRL over AFL and AFL used to be infront. Proof that the TV ratings would be pretty accurate no matter what the time slot.

And that is not even counting Rugby Leagues following in the UK which AFLs is virtually non existent.

Lol just lol .

Hey dumbo .
You can call SOO a gimmick all you like ,doesn't change the fact it is not a gimmick ,but a representative series ,that is the biggest sporting event in this country.
It eats you up , lol ..

Now onto your ratings crap .

You have stated on here ,that 1 ratings box = 100,000s of viewers ,& that is why RL ratings are so good .
Multiply that by about 5,000 & the population of OZ is according to you far more than the last Census figure .
Yet as usual when asked about that claim ,you deflected .

Started raving about invisible people .

Face facts dumbo .
You are stupid ,

Basic Facts

The AFL Live application launched in 2012, and shows every game live. From 2013, this service became available to customers on all networks.
The NRL Live application launched in 2013 and shows all Foxtel games live, and Nine games at time of broadcast.

For those who wonder about such things, finding out just how many subscribers there are for either the AFL or NRL offerings on mobile and digital is near impossible. Hell even getting media outlets to report the same figures appears to be a damn impossibility, sometimes its hard just getting ONE outlet to agree with itself.

In September 2012, the Financial Review reported that the AFL live app had been downloaded a million times with more than 74% of downloaders taking up a paid subscription.

“This is the first year and people have a whole new experience they need to get their head around . . . but more than 74 per cent of customers converted from the free trial to the [paid] product so that’s been great"

- Adam Good, Telstra Director for Media and Digital Content

Business Spectator reported that it had taken Telstra less than six months to hit the million mark.

In February, 2013, the Financial Review reported that while there had been almost a million downloads, it was partly because the service was limited only to Telstra customers in 2012, the service was then opened up to all customers, regardless of carrier, in 2013. This apparently followed Telstras negotiations with the NRL which allowed broadcast across multiple carriers, for an extra fee, split between the NRL and Telstra.

The Financial Review reported in July, 2013 that there had been 2 million downloads of the NRL live app on smartphones and ipads, with more than a million video views on the app alone.

In November, 2013, the Financial review reported that the AFL app had more than 2 million downloads.

In December 2013, Roy Morgan Research ran a poll which found that while 6 million Australians over the age of fourteen watch the AFL, only 5.5% or 332,000 used the AFL live app in any given four week period in 2013. The article concluded

“NRL regular season TV viewers are typically more likely to be male and skew younger than AFL viewers. As these groups are also the ones more likely to take up live sports streaming on mobile devices, we could expect the new NRL app will soon attract a higher proportion of its TV viewers than the 4.1% of AFL viewers who used the AFL app in an average month last year. "

On February 10th, 2014, The Australian reported that the AFL app had been downloaded 1.5 million times, with the NRL app downloaded 800,000 times with numbers expected to increase if Telstra could get them onto Chromecast.

On March 8th, 2014, Fairfax media ran an article that claimed that the AFL app had been downloaded 1.8 million times to the NRL apps 800,000.

On May 5th, 2014, The Financial Review reported that downloads of the AFL app had reached 3.1 million, up about 40% on the uptake in June last year., while the AFL said that it was averaging a million unique viewers across an average weekend of footy.

And yet in every other metric that actually requires people to show up to the game, the AFL smashes the NRL. Smashed in revenue, smashed in crowds, smashed in memberships. You can have facebook woo.
Television, games watched in more than 3 states of one rock too.

Television aye, that thing that leaves AFL for dead.

I noticed no one has mentioned the article stating the NRL will be looking at 2 billion next time at the low end, hmmmmmmm.

Naaa, the NRL is about to do what it done in the early 90's before the SL war, it's about to start leaving the AFL behind in the TV stakes. Lets just hope (RL fans that is) they don't decide to start fighting to hard over it again where another rich arsehole with more power than just about anyone else on the planet decides he wants a piece of it no matter what it takes to get it.

Couldn't happen twice could it?

Could come down to where they decide to Expand.. (NRL)
also inserting more ad's is are hard one for the NRL
as there is minimal opportunities for ads.

Theres more adverts in 1 half of AFL then in a whole game of Rugby league.
IF you watch a live channel 9 game
they are lucky to have 3 ads in a whole half of football sometimes.

Plenty of ways around that, the people in charge will leave no stone unturned.

I just hope they don't %%%% the game doing it.

If they decided to have time off each time the ball was out of play, they could put in heaps more 15-30 second ads and extend the game coverage by at least 20 mins just from putting an ad on while they players are walking to a scrum. 9 would be happy seeing as they could sell heaps more spots and make a killing and the fans would be happy getting a full and proper 80 minutes of footy.

Some merkins take 3 minutes to kick the farking ball after a try, some used to take forever (El Masri I'm looking at you), time off after a try until the restart, they can put a full block of ads in (5 ads for 15 seconds each. That's under 2 minutes already, they would still have time to show the conversion or they could do it other ways.

could not agree more.

THE GAME NEEDS TO STOP THE CLOCK.
too much wasted time.
everytime it goes out of play
try is scored.
conversion.
knock on scrum.
kick restart / Drop out.
The clock should be stopped

david gyngell was saying stuff about this previous to the latest NRL Deal about more ad breaks etc etc.
and having timed stopped.. nothing seem to change.
be good if they do go towards this way of thinking. with the new Board in place.

Remains to be seen, but it doesn't take a genius to see there are plenty of things the NRL can do without disrupting the game or interfering with it in a way that ruins the product.

Even ads with the footy in the top corner while the players are walking to a scrum or waiting for a goal to be kicked could be used.

YES 3 RUGBY LEAGUE GAMES HAD MORE VIEWERS THAN AFLS MOST WATCHED GAME :\: :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

The AFL fans try to laugh off a new rugby league team in Perth next tv deal, but with strong financial backing from businessmen as well as good support whenever nrl games are played there. I am sure Perth is likely to get a team.

There is no doubt that the NRL need to tweak the running of the game. Going from two halves to four quarters would help, as well as stopping the clock at those points. The AFL already do it even though they already have the four quarters. They have commercial breaks down pat after goals, although if it's a low scoring game revenue can drop. No way to predict that of course.

The argument about social media is moot because it doesn't create revenue directly. It can create interest however. It's just a question of translating that interest into bums on seats or clicks on the TV dial.
