Entering what might be the final season of an illustrious AFL career, Brisbane Lions defender Darryl White has been named as captain of the Qantas AFL Indigenous All-Stars side to play the Western Bulldogs at Darwin’s Marrara Oval on 5 February.

His vice-captain will be Brisbane teammate Chris Johnson.

Former VFL/AFL stars Maurice Rioli, Syd Jackson, Michael Long and Michael McLean have put together an impressive side for the clash, which will mark the first competitive AFL clash of the new season and will take place at the end of the Bulldogs’ annual AFL Community Camp.

The only notable absences from the squad are injured Sydney Swans stars Adam Goodes and Michael O'Loughlin and Hawk pair Chance Bateman and Mark Williams, but Port Adelaide's premiership players Sean and Peter Burgoyne and Byron Pickett have all been picked.

As chairman of the AFL Indigenous Foundation, Long said he is keen to see the cream of Australia's indigenous talent uniting communities from around the country, in a match he believes the All-Stars can win.

"The match will celebrate indigenous players from the present and the past," Long said in a statement.

"We look forward to seeing indigenous communities from throughout Australia come together in Darwin for the match."

Former Brisbane star McLean will coach the side, assisted by Che Cockatoo-Collins, Eddie Hocking, Derek Kickett and Alan Thorpe.

The AFL Indigenous All-Stars squad: Peter Burgoyne (Port Adelaide), Shaun Burgoyne (Port Adelaide), Xavier Clarke (St Kilda), Richard Cole (Collingwood), Troy Cook (Fremantle), Anthony Corrie (Brisbane), Aaron Davey (Melbourne), Jeff Farmer (Fremantle), Cameron Faulkner (Western Bulldogs), Antoni Grover (Fremantle), Des Headland (Fremantle), Graham Johncock (Adelaide), Chris Johnson VC (Brisbane), Steven Koops (Fremantle), Andrew Krakeour (Richmond), Nathan Lovett-Murray (Essendon), Ashley McGrath (Brisbane), Cory McGrath (Carlton), Andrew McLeod (Adelaide), Daniel Motlop (Kangaroos), Justin Murphy (Essendon), Allan Murray (St Kilda), Byron Pickett (Port Adelaide), Ashley Sampi (West Coast Eagles), Andrew Walker (Carlton), Daniel Wells (Kangaroos), Matthew Whelan (Melbourne), Darryl White (c) (Brisbane), David Wirrpunda (West Coast Eagles), Dion Woods (Fremantle)

Looks like a good line up. Shame about Goodes and O'Loughlin missing out through injury. Does anyone give the Bulldogs a chance in this game? Any news on how ticket sales are going up your way Croc?

Huge amount of interest in the game up this way and I believe that it will be a sell-out well before game day. I will update you on ticket sales soon.

The NT News have been reporting on this clash for several weeks including dossiers on the All-Star likely players, and Darwin is AFL mad anyway.

Looks like a great squad, although your 2 Swans have let the side down IMO.

Great to hear the interest in the game is already huge. It will be interesting to see which team gets the most support from the locals particularly as the Bulldogs see Darwin as their home away from home.
