I think it is very sad if no Shute, no W League and no WNBL. Very wrong if you ask me.
Personally from a society point of view women's sport is hugely important, especially for young and teenage girls to see active women. I think it should be a condition on the broadcast rights (especially for Football, Basketball and Cricket) that part of the TV rights is a commitment to broadcast female versions as well.
Not trying to bad mouth NRL or AFL, but the women's versions of those I would argue are afterthoughts, and as far as I am aware National competitions do not exist for them.
But women's football, women's basketball are Cricket are National and international competitions. They should get airtime

I'm supposing netball is the exception both nationally and internationally.
If you are going to remove reasonably rating state leagues then if you have to remove these barren sports.
There has to be a balance between idealism and commercialism.

As part of the media package the associations, the governing bodies should mandate it, then it isn't up to the broadcaster. The governing bodies have a duty to develop all aspects.

obviously not as popular at the professional level as mens, but its still got a solid following
maybe sbs can pick some of these up but are the govt going to cut their budget as well? fox could maybe do something to - like i said, i reckon shute shield could rate on fox better than the nrc, yeah it has a smaller demographic but it's been around way longer and showed it had a good following on abc whereas the nrc has mostly been a failure
