This is SA Football politics at its finest.

The SANFL owned both Adelaide and Port Adelaide and milked them dry - and are continuing the ripoff at Adelaide Oval because of the moronic deal that the SANFL were allowed to sign with the SA Government. The current deal at Adelaide Oval was signed by the clubs under SANFL ownership.

Theres a lot of parties to blame here, but the clubs were effectively forced into the arrangement by 1) their owners 2) their government and 3) their facilities (also owned by their owners).

Well all I can say as a fan of sport is, stop bleeding the punters dry and for goodness sake, please make sure you don't kill the club with greedy tactics like charging 300k a game or whatever, it's a joke.

All codes are copping it, this is one thing all fans should agree on whatever the sport they follow, if they keep going, no sport will be able to be played because of the stupid costs.

The AFL doesnt run football in SA. You'd do well to read up on the animosity between the SANFL and the VFL. Until then, Id suggest you know fuck all about it.

The AFL controls the competition, the clubs and the facility they played at were literally owned by the state competition. Nothing the AFL could do about the end contract, although its heaviliy involved in the review currently underway.

wookie, i read on a soccer forum that adelaide united made a $250,000 profit from their game at adelaide oval earlier this season because they signed a very cheap rental deal with the stadium

the game drew 33k

if the 2 adelaide clubs are drawing average crowds of even more than that yet are still losing money per game then it suggests that that the stadium deal is very expensive...i didn't know the sanfl ran the stadium or the clubs...but it makes sense if they're robbing those clubs of money.

perhaps an internal investigation into the deal needs to be done similar to what they did with suncorp stadium

i dont care what code you support, theirs nothing worse than corruption from administration. fair to say we've all suffered from it one way or the other over the years. really is a disgrace if they're charging the AFL teams what looks to be nearly triple of what the market price should be

In South Australia and Western Australia the game is actually run by the respective state organisations, with some funding from the AFL for Auskick and other programs. Which is why they use different ball manufacturers and even have slight variations on match rules.

The AFL is directly responsible for every other state and territory body - outside of WA and SA.

The WAFC and SANFL have total control over the club licenses, they literally own them (at least until this year in Adelaide, and its still the case in Perth) - something that the QRL/NSWRL/VRL could only dream of, as well as the state bodies almost total control over the stadiums the clubs play at. The situation with the ARLC is not even remotely comparable.

Yeah I agree in a way with Raider, if the AFL have got all these things done for stadiums over the years and put some of their own hard earned into them, what in the world is going on when they agree to such pathetic costs? Yeah done good in NSW and QLD which is a shame for the popular sports, but what about where it is popular, it's been shafted like RL has in our places, mind you, not to the extent we have, mainly Adelaide where we are copping shit from all directions.
