Rugby League Participation rates about the same as Volleyball

Post by post_hoc »

Did you know, according to the ABS dataset of 2011-12 that Rugby League participation rates are so bad, that they don't even bother looking at them on an age breakdown. The Top 25 sports and recreation activities are looked at, so AFL is there, Outdoor and indoor Football are looked at separately they are so big, Ballet, Gold etc etc.

But Rugby League have so few people playing that it only exists in the top 55 list.

Total participation Australia wide is 104,100 people, long, long way behind squash with 162,000 a little while behind Hockey with 112,000 and Ice/snow sports with 138,000. Breathing down Rugby Leagues neck are the sports of Volleyball with 100,000 and Badminton with 99400.

The question must be asked will Volleyball overtake Rugby League?

104,000 players pathetic.
Football in NSW
- Football 200,868
- AFL NSW/ACT 28,468
- Rugby League 96,041
- Rugby Union 40,685
Football has 22% more players than the other football codes combined

If RL was a skilful sport the standards would be horrifyingly shit given the low participation rate and small pond they have to draw upon. Much tougher to make it pro in Soccer, AFL and Basketball than it is in RL.

well the number of players that leave professional rugby league indicates that anyone with any amount of skill gets bored and wants to try their hand at something harder, such as AFL, even NFL and Rugby Union.

104,000 lonely individuals playing one of the most meaningless games in Australia. Nearly as many people play Badminton, I have seen it at the Olympics but besides that I don't know anyone that plays it, imagine the pain for Rugby League if we ever produce a badminton player to win a medal, rugby league would just continue to fall.

depending on where you get your information from
those ABS data sheets as well as independent researchers like Roy morgan or the NRL annual reports.
the ABS & Roy Morgan tell similar stories, meanwhile the NRL annual reports it has over a million players playing League
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

Did you know that more 25-34 yr olds play basketball than all age groups of Rugby League combined?

1 age bracket of basketball participation is more than the entire Rugby League participation

sorry but the ABS data doesn't show that at all, you know the ABS the data that governments make major decisions on, Planners use to work out what area needs schools hospitals etc. you know the ABS that are the independent data gathering department.

sorry dave, but more lies, why do you keep lying? 104,00 people are all that play rugby league in Australia

What's the use participating after one post in this thread with some truth?

Here is a single fact just for this lie of a thread.

Earlier this year you dopey pr!cks, touch and tag footy came back under the NRL banner, those two orgs alone put another 800,000 participants in the game.

YOU ARE VERY WELCOME.

they have note added that much

the ABS collects that data as well, lumps it all in with "football Sports" which includes, touch football, oztag, Gaelic Football and American football. In 2012 that figure was 320,000 so at best it is close to 1/3 of what you just quoted. unless you are trying to claim that it has grown by 500,000 participants in 2 years LOL.

So sorry, what ever way you want to slice it or dice it, your not going to get anywhere near 1.8 million, let alone 800,000.

Even with the combined oztag, touch football, tackle football, Gaelic football and American football, you don't even reach outdoor Football (soccer)

So yes thank you, now you are welcome
