The Kangawhos - a history of shocking attendances

Post by sydneyfc »

The Kangaroos, or otherwise better known as,the Kangawhos are Australia's worst supported international team.

The self proclaimed "Australia's footy team", made up of the elite NRL players has a history of shocking attendances - this is despite the ticket prices being comparable to everyday bus and train fares. Since 1990 only a handful of Kangawho matches have managed to sell 40,000 tickets or more, infact - in the last 25 years, only 1 international rugby league match in this country has ever drawn more than 50,000 people. Kangawho's is right - it seems nobody cares or has any interest at all in the Australia national rugby league team.

Delve into things deeper....and you may see why - over 70% of the internationals they have played were against New Zealand....an international sport? Backwater more like it [-X

You would forgive people for having more interest in international lawn bowls than this bad joke of a sport.

This was no more emphatic than last night when the Kangawhos played England in front of a paltry 20,000 people on a beautiful Sunday afternoon - meanwhile, the next day - the Melbourne Victory played at the same venue, on a Monday evening and absolutely smashed that attendance to bits.

International Rugby League is quite clearly in a crisis. :(

The Kangaroos from 1908 to 1974
Averaged about 57000 in internationals in Australia
No international team in this country
Every attendance record in NSW & QLD was held by them
They were the first team to crack 70, 000 in this country in 1914

Not the wallabies
Not the cricket team
& certainly not the pathetic suckerwhos :(/ :_<> :(/
Were as big as them over that 66 year period
England lost their ability to compete with Aust by about 1974 & international RL is no longer the pinnacle of our game &
The roos have now been replaced by the Origin sides as the biggest thing in our game

Now the Blues & Maroons are the biggest sporting teams in Australian sport.
The poor widdle sookerwhos just cant get into that numb 1 spot can they :(/ :(/  :(/

At least our mighty roos did have it for a long long time

What an absolute idiot, why not put the whole history of all the biggest codes in the country from when the youngest was born and see who had what crowds and who hold all the records. Btw, the Sydney RL Internationals only went down hill in the late 70's onwards, before that as said above, they dominated.

So put your might Socceroos up, shove in the Wallabies for good measure you are going to be very surprised, well not you, you obviously know what the crowds were and didn't want to go there.

no one cares what your kangawhos did in the 1950s ya dummy. keep the "barbed wire" days to yourself - it's bad enough that i had to go as far back as 1990 when only the recent years should be relevant

the facts may be a bitter pill for you to swallow but ya just gonna have to accept it my friend! your kangawhos are nobodies, and unless you were offering to pay the public top dollar to watch them play, no one is gonna wanna touch that shit with a 6 ft pole

and don't even start to compare ticket prices! the average ticket price for a socceroo match is $110. the average price for a 4n match? $15

the socceroos - kings of the crowds, kings of the tv ratings :\:

Only puts down a portion of the history of both teams to suit Its thread

Lets not let all the facts get in the way of this dribbler having a wank eh

Roos were the biggest & the best for 66 years
Something the sookerwhos have never been able to say

& never will

Oh by the way
A Ticket to a suggahroos game averages out at about 12 dollars you lying raider :^o :^o

& it looks lile theyll have to drop those prices for the Asian cup as ticket sales are at disasterous levels
Seriously low levels...

Not hard is it.

they are the combined crowd totals over all of the games played in the series, not individual games
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..

You don't say.

Usually 3 games so while you actually seen that, did you know, you can use Maths to find out how much the game averaged each series?

LOL

I guess you just don't like it when our national side plays 3 games a season in Aus and usually averages over 30k a game at least and has done looking at the REAL figures, for 114 years straight.

no one is even remotely interested in what was happening in 1926 ya old fart

both you and dave are showing ya rusted old ages via this thread

the kangywhos are a non-option as far as live sport is concerned. people would rather do their tax returns than watch the kangawhos play - FACT

the mighty socceroos have had 19x as many 50k+ crowds than RL has for internationals in this country over the last 25 years.....L...M...F...A....O

infact....the kangawhos refuse to play at anz and the mcg...i wonder why....fear of empty seats and simply not popular like enough :>::

Awwww, he doesn't like the facts.

Stick to pretending to follow one sport and one team when we all know different.

Here's another fact, the Tours are a thing of the past, yet historically the Kangaroos never really got big crowds against NZ other than a few times in history, in the last decade and a bit, they are averaging well over 30k and that includes taking games to smaller places such as Newcastle, Gold Coast and Canberra which were all sold out and some on numerous occasions when played more than once.

So that shows the games against NZ are on an upward trend.

In this last decade as well we have seen Australia play differing Nations that historically never played the game in the past with some very good crowds and also hosting nations playing out here like Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and so on which have had decent crowds and higher TV ratings on Fox than the S15 and A League combined at times.

A massive untapped market, you had better pray they don't realise there's money to be made from playing internationals pretend soccer fan, with TV ratings higher for non Australian teams taking part in International RL shown on Aus TV being better than most A League games and most S15 games, you'd better worry they might accidentally do something about it.

Btw, I still haven't seen what our Asian champions rated the other day, can i have a figure?
