Why are the socceroos plummeting in the world rankings?

Really serious stuff here folks so lets discuss. For those who dont know the socceroos have really plummeted in world rankings lately. It's been quite drastic actually and you wouldnt know it if you only listened to our resident sooker goofballs sydfc and posthoc who present posts which suggest soccer in Australia is at an all time high. Its simply not true folks and as a monitor of ethical and intellectual standards of this site i wont stand for the tripe sydfc and posthoc are presenting no no no, I wont.

So lets discuss. Why have the socceroos plummeted from 47 odd a few years ago to 99 in the world rankings now?

Is the rest of the world getting better? Or is it also that the interest in australia is minimal and thus the $$$ for the code is also minimal and thus we are simply not able to attract nor train quality athletes? Or is it just that we are plain old shithouse at the code and no amount of money nor training could make a nation which prides itself on a fair go and getting back up when you get knocked play a code in which the men cry like adolescent boys when someone brushes their hair during a match and the fans act like they're heaps tough but only when theyre in packs?

Personally I think its more the last two suggestions. What do others think?

we were ranked 14 in 2009. We had a once in a generation squad of players all playing in the top leagues. Only ever happened twice in our national teams history. The current players aren't as good yet but are young enough to improve

The good thing with the Asian Cup is that if we win it or get to the final, the co-efficient will boost us back up to around 40th where we probably belong right now

unlike in 2005 where soccer in this country was reliant on the success of the socceroos to build the game, we now look at the a-league as the figurehead. hence why the socceroos - who have been out of form now for nearly 2 years - have done so bad for a while but none of it has had an effect on the growth of the a-league or the sport in general. and that's without mentioning the fact that the socceroos are still this countries most watched national team, regardless of their rank

to me that says to things

1) football is a real international sport with over 200 competitive countries, unlike rugby league which has about 2 and a half competitive countries and a bunch islands in the pacific competing at their world cup

2) australia loves it's socceroos and will support it no matter what - unlike the kangawhos

the world cup goes for over 3 years - the qualifiers have started already for 2018.

the finals come around every 4 years and last about a month but the qualifiers go for 3 years straight. the first time qualifiers were introduced to FTA was last year and the australia iraq match drew 1.5m

every socceroo match excluding friendlies will be broadcasted on FTA from now till....forever. expect them to smash the 1m mark every time they're on...comfortably, regardless of our form or our opposition.

it's true, our best athletes take on the most loved and reverted code, rl. Hence the athletic dominance of our lads, in every sense of athletic dominance. 'Cept I guess the dive and dramatic falls and hair pulling that exist in the AFL and oi league.
