I would agree with that Wookie. Union is a funny one as you don't see or hear much of it but it gets crowds and some media. Yet the Reds are huge with membership etc. I think it lacks fta therefore limited in exposure.

An Article onThe Roar today expressed shock that the AFL would rank third for sport behind League and Union.

Popularity wise its a wide field:

- The NRL wins on TV audiences and by a fair margin, with both the NRL and the Queensland Cup beating all comers.
- The Queensland Reds win on membership, they topped 56,000 members this year for the first time. At last count the Broncos trailed them at 27,000 ( a figure not updated since June), and the Lions further back at 24,000.
- League (33,000) and Union crowds I understand are close,with the AFL back in the field at 19,000 (note: i may backcheck this again tonight)

Participation wise its no contest

- The QRU 2013 Annual Report stated that it had 260,000 participants but didnt break them down.
- The AFL 2013 Annual report stated that it had 157,000 participants but 100,000 of those are Auskickers.
- The NRL 2013 Annual Report stated that it had 62,000 senior and junior players. The QRL Annual Report went further saying that the junior players included mini and mod participants (and arrived at the same total)
- Touch Footy Australia's 2013 Annual report stated that it had 32,000 queensland members in 2013.

Any AFL follower or sports follower worth his salt should never have been surprised that the AFL takes a back seat in Queensland, but its also borne out by the facts and the figures. Yes the AFL is up and coming, and will probably grow as the Suns get better (and if the Lions dont get worse), but dont overstate its position in the greater scheme of things at this time.

Ill probably flesh this out later, but i wanted this out while i thought of it. Carry on.Note that i havent ignored the Aleague, its just theres a lack of information needed to make viable comparisons.

Looks like QLD reds are good a creative accounting and there CEO is ex AFL so no surprise really.......Broncos ave 33.5k 2014, Reds ave 27k in 2014.

Broncos member numbers are unknown so hard to compare, last known figure was 27ish.

Now how can it be that the Reds are about 6k behind per game and have over 20k more members then the Broncos......................anybody with half a brain can see write through this propaganda...

spazza dazza, read some actual reports that are documents that are sent to asic! learn the facts before crying propaganda & calling lies
its funny the lions have better revenue, membership, sponsorship & crowds better than every NRL club bar the broncos, considering they have been shit for 10 years and in their hey day they were out drawing the broncos, AFL in brisbane & QLD is far more popular than you want to believe!
the suns are flogging the titans on the GC as well & they have never made the finals!
stay there up on that farrrrkhole of a mountain you live on, in your parents basement, hiding away from reality!!
