The 5th and highly successful 2014 AFL International Cup has been completed.
In a highly entertaining match the PNG came from behind to narrowly defeat Ireland in the Mens' GF whlist
Canada (Northern Lights) had the measure of the Irish in a hard fought Womens' GF.
With every IC the standard gets higher and more attractive mirroring the growth of Australian Football overseas.
The quantum improvement this year was in media coverage - TV, radio, internet and print.
Commercial TV focused on the competition not just mickey mouse teams like the peace team.
SBS did a series on the different language teams.
Many games were broadcast on radio, especially the community round games.
Most games were streamed live, scores updated regularly and roundups posted quickly.
The implication for the next IC is quite exciting if we can build on these results and sell the event even better.

Certainly fox footy gave it some media. Saw a bit on 360 talking about it.

There was some footage on commercial TV etc.Fred wrote:Certainly fox footy gave it some media. Saw a bit on 360 talking about it.
In previous years the media has tended to focus on the periphery rather than the competition itself.
Even though thought the coverage was still minimal it was a quantum step.
When I mentioned the IC this year, people had heard about it and were interested.
Hopefully this will lead to more interest next IC and maybe that will translate into something tangible.
Nice try Cos.
