I'd be absoluteley amazed if the nRL didn't expand/relocate teams for the next TV rights deal. It'd be short-sighted and cowardly even by their standards to maintain the status quo yet again. The prevailing attitude in the nRL media seems to be that there isn't the talent to spread across 2 new teams, but surely you could just buy players from England?

It won't be Canberra that goes though, they're too rich. I'm also not convinved the nRL would give up the Gold Coast (a city of 600k people) to put the Titans in Brisbane. So what does that leave? Cronulla to Perth maybe? Or Cronulla fold to make way for Pirates? Or a merger to make way for the Pirates/Bombers?

Interesting times ahead.
Yep Drac I think you hit the Nail on the head - The Snot Greens will stay ONLY because financially the NRL can't cut em, the Titans have to stay as they won't want to give up the GC without a fight to the AFL (but it's going to cost them millions!) - that leaves Cronulla and depending on how Penrith goes over the next couple of years maybe them as well to relocate or merge with other sides - then they have the Nth Sydney Bears still trying to get back in, Pirates, Bombers and Wellington all trying to get in - they will have to do something, they might go down the promotion relegation path but that would spell the death blow for clubs Cronulla! Like you said interesting times ahead!

Another two page spread in the Sunday mail on how the titans are in trouble on the Coast and losing ground big time to the suns. Talks about lack of grass roots players from local area being one point of concern. As Lockyer said yesterday, are they losing young kids to the Aussie rules ? The thing is, the more they write articles like this I think the more people think the titans are on the nose. Lockyer called for nrl concessions ... Which is amazing in what is thought to be rl heartland. From my observations it still is the sport of a lot of kids... But so is surfing. AFL certainly has a large and it seems growing presence . The article also touched on the titans needing to get in touch with the community ... Something the suns do well. In saying all this, if any team on the Coast shows promise or is winning they do well ... If the suns fall right off will they maintain their popularity on the Coast ?

The titans and nrl are very worried about the growth of Aussie rules dave on the Gold Coast as a lot of kids are coming over to AFL and there is little grassroots apparently coming through. Lockyer's words not mine. But you could be right re if suns start losing re how much the community continues to embrace them. It's a fickle town no doubt. I think the loss of the CEO to the suns was a major blow .. Travis auld I think and was premature for the AFL to steal him away to head office. But if the suns should fail. (They won't ) then nothing will work here... They have gone about it all the right way, part luck part design.

there has been some articles in the courier mail the major qld paper about the titans, how they must rebuild the club and brand. acknowledging the threat of the Suns and the AFL. considering they have only been around for a hand full of years & a team set up in their own heart land & by far the most well supported NRL team in the broncos only 40 minutes up the road

All quiet of the eastern front.

Not toilet replies or page full of emoticons.

I guess the nrhell fans are resigned to the titans going down the toilet.
Nice try Cos.

So what's your response to respected nrl people commenting on the AFL moving in on the Gold Coast crapper ? Serious question ... Are the nrl doing enough?

Rl here doesn't have a great reputation ... Not sure if this is the case in other places. I was talking to my son about whether he wanted to play union as he has been told he would be good. He loves his AFL but was saying good to try things. He wasn't keen. I suggested rl and he was like "no way". ... Why ? They have fights all the time and they have to have security at the games ... Because of the parents ....
