Stop kidding yourself. The NRL are well ahead in the key area. Adding PayTV with FTA and claiming that as an average shows just how desperate you people are. It like adding a cricketer's one day & test match runs together and making out its his average. Besides the highest averages and cumulative ratings we have matches that rate over 4m

That's simply wrong ... Again. As they are two different formats that require different things and mind sets . If you want to have an idea of how popular a game is going by how many people watch it on TV ... Why would you leave a significant proportion of viewers out? Unless it didn't suit your argument of course.

Yes, that's right, they are two different things - so adding them together and trying to take an average gives you a figure with no meaning!

Nooooo .... They are all viewers ... If you want to know how many people watched a game why would you only count some ? It would be like only counting games played on nsw for crowd figures .

Not if we include NRL regionals. The two different things part stems from the fact that we used to count the fox national ratings, including regionals, without counting the considerable NRl regionals as well. As long as we factor in everything, then its all good, and we CAN do so because its part of the same tv deal.

As always though, go with the excuses.
Pay TV and FTA TV are two different things one goes to all viewers and one goes to just 30% of viewers. And if they are added together and averaged out they will give a meaningless figure. Just like Greg Chappell's One Day International runs added to his test match runs , than averaged out, does not reflect his average - they are two different things that are listed seperately in cricket Almanacks.

Excuses? its called reality. How would it be possible to have the best avg ratings when it comes to PTV, The best AVG ratings when it comes to FTA and be behind??

Stop kidding yourself, the media rights revenue figures tell the real story, and the AFL makes more from tv than the NRL - and doesnt have Origin or Tests to go with it. This is despite activeoly pursuing policies which damage the average ratings of a broadcast and add to network costs.
The revenue from Media was never made public, not by either organisation. The AFL broadcast revenue + media revenue is only slightly more than the NRL broadcast revenue [only].

The East Coast of of Australia Leaves the other areas for dead when it comes to advertisers bucks. The Networks realise this and the AFL realise this, and the vast majority of this area is rugby league heartland.

You realise this statement directly contradicts itself right? How else do we know what the media revenue is for the AFL and NRL? Its in their annual reports.

It was you who made the claim that they got more money. Im just pointing out what we both know.

yeah they keep telling us this, and yet AFL broadcasters continue to pay more. Go figure. No wait, thats right, they've been paying overs. i remember now

I do know we were paid $2.05B , Without Telstra or NZ money, for a game that had 1 less match. And we could of got even more if the Commission was more interested in dollars rather than having the games best interest at heart. The Commissions 1st contract more than doubled the previous one, and with the best ratings, the prime location and having no 1st & last rights issue with Foxtel hanging over us there's no telling what our next contract will bring.

Are you serious ... The commission sold their sole to channel 9 in an attempt to give them maximum ratings.

Sorry, that should have read $1.025B. I assumed were talking about broadcast revenue so why the Toyota figure? Grant was known to say the Telstra amount was double the previous amount(the previous amount was $90m). It is only speculation that the Telstra money included naming rights. And it's hard to believe that the AFL got, almost 12 times, the amount for its radio rights. You sure it isn't $2m a year for the NRL and $4.3 m a year for the AFL?

The Telstra / NRL deal mention several different amounts $180/150/100 so any final amount is not so clear cut.

The NRL $2m radio deal is for 1 year only
.....The good news is that rights value and games coverage has doubled from last season's payment of less than $1 million for a broadcast of four games a week.

Although contracts have not been signed for the upcoming season, it is expected....

So according to your figures;

Fox payed the AFL $619.5m for 9 PTV matches or about $69m a match,
Fox payed the NRL $550m for 5 PTV matches or about $110m a match.

C7 payed the AFL $475m for 4 and a bit matches or under $118m a match,
C9 payed the NRL $475m for 3 matches or about $158m per match.

Meaning gold, gold, gold to the NRL in the key areas.
