On the Roar they are discussing this ( & they all seem to be AFL fans) .

these days? pretty much anyone who donates some money, most if not all clubs have ‘memberships’ which provide the member with nothing but the privilege of being called a member. It is definitely a watered down metric to go by these days.:_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<>Gene Anderson-Conklin said | August 1st 2014 @ 2:00pm | Report comment

Not saying Swans are any worse than any other club, they are all doing it, but at least 2 of those 3 I listed contained membership cards so I would assume they counted.

“If i rocked up to a game and bought just a entry ticket, i would not be a member.”
Correct but if you bought a supporter or cyggy membership (and possibly a pet membership, people have been accusing Collingwood as counting them for years) and never went to a game you would still be counted a member. Membership is no longer contingent upon having to attend a set number of games.![]()

The real question is can the AFL Swans capitalize on their concessions to the same degree Brisbane did in the early 2000s?
They’ve been gifted two of the competition’s best forwards without having to trade a single player in return, so you’d think that coupled with their dream draw, charmed injury run and favorable MRP treatment there are absolutely zero excuses for the Swans NOT to win this year’s premiership. I just hope that if it does eventuate they pay sufficient tribute to the man who worked tirelessly for many years to make it happen – Andrew Demetriou.
