Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
To try and make out that the NRL is not interested in progress is utterly absurd. The NRL have announced they will invest 100% of its broadcast revenue back into the game. **** other investments 200m will be spent on the grass roots - an additional 2m will be used to vamp up drug testing(no 3 strikes your out policy here).The_Wookie wrote:You've been caught out on this before. Yes the NRL banked 49 million in profit last year, the AFL only banked 16 million - the AFL already had 89 million in its Future fund, and several million scattered throughout various infrastucture and reserve funds.
The NRL might have 200 million in the bank in 5 years - after all if you dont want progress you dont spend it, but sooner or later clubs come knocking for funding and infrastructure needs, players want pay rises. The AFL spends more on clubs yes, but it also spends more on development and second tier competition. It spends more on infrastructure, and it obviously spends more on expansion. It also entirely funds the AFLPA.
One code is going places, and the NRL is desperately trying to catch up in financial terms. AFL HQ makes 500+ million for the year. The NRL 314.3 million. The AFL makes more money from non broiadcast revenue than it does from broadcast revenue (267 million - 234 million), the NRL makes a paltry 90 million in comparison to its broadcast revenue of 221 million)
Clubs on the other hand are a slightly different story. There is a lot in liabilities yes, but debts themselves arent an actual problem as long as the level is sustainable, at the moment only two or three clubs have unsustainable levels of debt (Brisbane and Port, possibly the Bulldogs). If we are going to talk about debt levels, perhaps the fact that League HQ has liabilities of 123 million, as opposed to the AFLs 50 million - which is incidentally the AFLs guarantees on club lines of credit, and as such is also included in club liabilities - not to mention guaranteeing lines of credit for ANZ Stadium, various state competitions and the AFLPA.
The AFL future fund was established in 2010 or 2011, it has'nt been added to since that time so you can hardly use that as an excuse for the AFL's puny little profit. The NRL/ RLC didnt exist at that time, they've barely been around 2 years. The NRL's profit is a 60m turnaround from when they first took over in 2012 - I wonder which code is going place? AFL's put 4 clubs north of the Murray so there an expert at expansion :_<> - there like that little Dutch boy with his fingers in the dyke.
' Maybe if the AFL wasnt required to give there clubs a $42m (up from $32m in 2012) handout there profit wouldn't be so puny

the NRL is trying to ...........catch up is it ?

yes
40 million more dollars in profits &
they're the ones behind apparently

the level of club debt in the VFL is a monumental problem & this is directly why the VFL is now posting profits far lower then 5 years ago
it is putting fingers in Dykes everywhere
the bank guarantee amount rose from 33 million in 2013 .... to 42 million for this season
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/AFL/t ... 6862624584
it will almost certainly rise past 50 Million for 2015
VFL clubs are not getting better at balancing their budgets ... they are getting worse
& the VFL's reserves are disappearing as a result so the VFL needs every cent it earns , it is not in a comfortable position at all.

the NRL on the other hand is being fiscally responsible , as are most of its clubs
its turnover when placed against expenditure has it doing these

watch its bank balance sky rocket as it continues to increase revenues & control spending
like I said

Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
The way I see it RD is every AFL club is doing fine with the exception of Brisbane. Collingwood, West Coast, Fremantle and Adelaide are powerhouses. Essendon is a similar powerhouse club and they have lost money recently, however they have big assets and will continue to make big money into the future. Richmond are big, Sydney will make big money this year and will do well financially into the future Port have come good in a big way as they will tell everyone at the end of the year when all of their revenue is worked out. Some of the smaller Vic clubs have minor debts. They look big to you but for businesses that turn over 30+ million a year, the debt is small. Even GWS and a Gold Coast are tracking as expected and although they are not flush, they are fully funded for the forseeable future. The AFL makes so much money that if a club truly got into major debt then they are in a position to bale them out.Raiderdave wrote:The_Wookie wrote:How about you fuck off and come back when you have a clue.Raiderdave wrote:The_Wookie wrote:You've been caught out on this before. No code is national, no code will be national and no amount of bs will make it national.
But my points above remain valid ... I believe this makes Aussie rules national.

Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
Not to the level they have Aussie rules. In sa, tassie, and Victoria rl is very very small. As I have said before, there is nothing in gippsland in Victoria, if you wanted your son to okay living there you'd have to travel over an hour to train in a combo that goes from Geelong to cranbourne... So you could travel 3 hrs to play for instance. That's just one example.
Whereas, in similar populated areas in nsw you would have a club to go to close enough by. Look at how many leagues are in Sydney alone. And look at how many rl leagues there are in say Melbourne metro.

Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
Yeah, but there are places in NSW and QLD that don't have AFL teams either and never have.
It goes both ways.
The only code I can ever see having all bases covered is soccer, but that's way down the line if they get promotion/relegation with enough teams for at least 2 divisions.
It's the only code that can do it because it's the easiest code to play.

Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
I guess you're not getting how small rl is in Victoria ... Whereas Aussie rules has I think 5 leagues in Sydney alone. Add to that the amount of AFL players that come from all over the country.
Gippsland is a very large part of Victoria and rl doesn't exist. Is there a town in nsw or qld the size of the Latrobe Valley for instance that doesn't have an Aussie rules club? You look at Warwick in qld or towoomba ... Aussie rules is in those towns. We are looking at at best 9 or 10 clubs of rl covering most of Victoria. I think there is another near the border towns not sure. Yet look at aussie rules in nsw and Sydney for comparison.

Re: World Dominance One Step Closer!
soccer is played in all states
+ this year was the first year of the FFA cup a knockout competition for every club in the country based off knockout competitions overseas like the FA cup and copa del ray
its for teams at all levels, started with 631
right now we're up to the round of 32, mix of a-league, 2nd tier and 3 tier teams still left. its really exciting IMO gives underdogs a chance to play the big dogs
and the way the draw is configured this season, 1 semi finalist won't be from the a-league
the overall winner gets qualification to the asian champions league...could well see the mighty tuggeranong united playing in asia!

its for teams at all levels, started with 631
right now we're up to the round of 32, mix of a-league, 2nd tier and 3 tier teams still left. its really exciting IMO gives underdogs a chance to play the big dogs
and the way the draw is configured this season, 1 semi finalist won't be from the a-league
the overall winner gets qualification to the asian champions league...could well see the mighty tuggeranong united playing in asia!

Just scroll down to nsw, act, and qld. Compare all those leagues to the leagues for rl in vic, tassie, wa and sa for instance. Rl has no where near the national participation.
