Police investigate school rugby league brawl

Police investigate school rugby leage brawl
A wild brawl at a schoolboy rugby league match is being investigated by police after one of the players needed to be treated in hospital. Both teams have now been suspended as authorities warn players on-field violence can lead to criminal charges. For most of the game the schoolboy clash had teetered on the edge of violence - with 15 minutes to go, following a simple tackle, it erupted. An all-in brawl erupted between Orange High School and Dubbo College players; some reserves even ran onto the field. Detective sergeant Mark Meredith of Dubbo Police said: “It's something we won't put up with as police. And players, regardless of the sport they're involved with, need to be aware of the consequences, so far as criminal action." Detectives say one reserve repeatedly kicked a 17-year-old Orange student in the head. He was taken to hospital with suspected skull fractures. The Astley Cup between Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst is Australia's oldest school competition and officials are promising tough sanctions. Terry Quinn of Country Rugby League said: “We'll come up with some people we need to charge and they'll then be taken to judiciary for a hearing and hopefully they'll get lengthy sentences."
The schools and the department of education declined to be interviewed on camera but in a statement the department condemned the fight as unacceptable, saying it was against the spirit of both schools." Players from both teams now face interviews with the police, suspensions and game bans.

SEVERAL NRL PLAYERS ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR MAKING BETS 1:59

IT’S being reported that a number of clubs have been informed that the NRL is investigating their players over alleged bets on rugby league games. The Australian is reporting that the NRL integrity unit has launched an investigation into players betting on matches. Under the NRL’s code of conduct players are banned from betting on games regardless of whether it involves their team or not. Journalist Brent Read told Fox Sports News that he expects more details to come to hand over the weekend. “I’m told the size of the bets vary from the trivial $5 bet on a multi that involved a rugby league game to something beyond that,” Read said. “I don’t know the extent of it from that perspective … We just have to see how it plays out over the coming days, whether we see players suspended over it or fined over it or whether they get away with a warning. Reed says he spoke to the NRL on Friday but they declined to comment outside of issuing a short statement. “The Integrity Unit doesn’t comment on any investigations that may be ongoing. “So that’s where it’s at the moment. The clubs have been informed. I know at least one club has been informed but from what I am told several clubs have been informed this week.”

Are we going to start this nonsense again are we. Well done team AFL, swansie from melb, keep showing us how much of a clown you are

Charged -2013

Denies, but arrested
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victor ... 83ca0ea372

Really, what is worse. A school fight or the above. Let's stop on this subject hey!! Team AFL have tried this shit so many times in here and every time there is no winner. Plan and simple there are grubs in both games and the governing bodies will be all doing their best to wipe them out of our game and not get that 3am phone call I am sure.

In case you haven't heard of it, there is this thing called google, try and use it before starting stupid shit like this

Hahaha I'm not talking about allegations of over 7 yrs ago these are issues today!!!! Both are concerned with how RL is viewed a thugs sport where the competition is compromised through its players gambling! And your response dig up historical allegations! Pathetic!

Magpie Dane Swan star guest at Mick Gatto restaurant fund-raiser

Date
June 12, 2014

Nick McKenzie, Richard Baker, Caroline Wilson and Cameron Houston

Collingwood footballer Dane Swan was the star attraction at a $200-a-head dinner promoted and attended by underworld boss Mick Gatto and other gangland figures and held this week at a pizza restaurant owned by Gatto's brother.

The event on Tuesday earned Gatto's associates and Swan several thousand dollars and was attended by several other members of Gatto's ''Carlton Crew'', including fellow convicted criminal Angelo "Fat Ange" Venditti.

Gatto and Venditti both beat separate murder charges during the underworld war and Venditti has previously sparked controversy over his relationship with troubled former AFL star Ben Cousins.

Also at Coburg pizza restaurant Gatto Nero - majority owned by Gatto's brother John - were several other underworld-linked figures and members of the public.

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert on Wednesday sought to play down Swan's appearance at the event, despite the AFL recently warning clubs and players to stay away from organised criminals, given the threat they pose to the integrity of the game.

Pert said the Brownlow medallist had ''assured us he didn't know anyone there'' and the event was a typical ''commercial exercise'' organised through his manager Liam Pickering. But Pickering told Fairfax Media on Wednesday night that he had no knowledge of the function and was told by Swan it was organised by a personal friend of the player.

Fairfax Media can reveal that one of Swan's closest friends, former VFL player Aaron Ramsay, was at the event and was well aware of its association with Gatto. Ramsay and Swan were ordered to perform community work after they pleaded guilty to affray over a drunken fracas at Federation Square in December 2003.

ADELAIDE'S national recruiting manager Matt Rendell has quit after he was identified to the AFL as the recruiting chief who claimed he would not draft an indigenous player unless he had one white parent.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou this morning telephoned Crows chief executive Steven Trigg asking Adelaide to investigate the allegation.

Mr Rendell was forced to resign, effective immediately.

Carlton star 'punched fan in the mouth'

Cameron Baud 7News Melbourne May 15, 2014, 6:04 pm

A Carlton football player has been accused of punching a fan in the mouth, shortly after being approached in the street for a photograph.

The victim, 25-year-old Carlton supporter, who 7News has agreed to identify only as Mike, alleges that Blues defender Simon White punched him in the mouth in the city on Tuesday night.

He claims he tried to intervene when White and two other Carlton players - Dylan Buckley and David Ellard - objected to his friend taking their photograph as they were leaving a concert.

"Simon White kept on progressively getting angrier," Mike told 7News. "I told him to 'just move along, get out of here'. I told him 'we don't want any trouble' and that's when he punched me in the lip."

7News has been told that 25-year-old White has a different version of events, and claims Mike provoked the clash.

"There was no provocation of any kind," he said. "It's not like I went up to him and said I was from another team and said Carlton are rubbish or anything."

In a statement, Carlton Football Club said: “We are aware of an altercation on Tuesday night.

"The club and Simon have been co-operating with police.

“As the matter is being investigated, we are not in a position to go into any more detail.”

Bryce Gibbs and Brock MClean were also with White at the concert, but were not involved.

“As soon as I was punched, within less than ten seconds I couldn’t see any of the footballers there,” he said.

White was interviewed by detectives last night.

Police have also obtained security vision from the venue.

It is expected that White, who has played 32 games over five season, will be charged on summons.

Mike is also considering suing for damages. .

Mercury
April 11, 2014 12:00AM

LAUDERDALE Football Club has apologised to an umpire manhandled by one of its junior players before the AFL’s umpiring boss Wayne Campbell flies in to Hobart today to meet the official involved.

Umpire numbers are close to crisis point, with Tasmanian Football Umpires Association president Kevin Foot revealing the organisation is losing an average 50 umpires a season, with player and parent abuse a main cause.

Mr Campbell, the AFL’s *national head of umpiring, and Tasmanian AFL umpire Nick Foot will meet the 16-year-old umpire today and a representative from Lauderdale.

On Wednesday night a Lauderdale under 16 player was given a 12-match ban by the STJFL tribunal for manhandling an umpire (10 weeks) and abusing an umpire (two weeks) in a match at Kermandie on Sunday

Yeh mate ,but who can blame them .
For yrs they were told exactly what they post..NRL has bad behaviour, only NRL players do this or that.
Any indescetions by AFL players were played down by the media,or swept under VLAD"S ample rug,or probably forgotton in a cosy deal with the Vic police.

They cannot accept that their sport has exactly the same problems as any other with not too bright young men with too much time Money & fame.
The brains trust of Adumb & Rambo ,start a thread & then get smashed & still continue on ...
I'll give them ONE unco point for trying & missing badly.
