its funny crowds fell because of the expansion sides,being played in smaller stadiums & in RL heart land, & guess what, they are now climbing back up fancy that!
the crowds averages took a fall and now are climbing back up, the most funny part is even at their lower averages they are still twice that of the NRL
but what else would we expect from an idiot that is still having little mishaps that a 3 year old can control in public

No but crowds are up 3.1% on last year and crowds last year were up 2.1% from the year before so they are on the rise after two expansion teams with low drawing power yet crowds in the NRL are still below what they were in 2012 and last year fell 2.9% from 2012 so what's the NRL's excuse???? No expansion teams more money - yet still less - by your analysis RL even more trouble!!!!!

it'll be interesting looking back at articles like these in 20 years time, GWS will gradually grow like the swans did whether you or i like it or not, their ceiling as an expansion team is still pretty unlimited right now despite how much money is being spent. sometimes you have to spend a lot of money to make some money in the long run

expansion teams like GWS and WSW have unlimited potential based on initial growth and/or financial input

whereas a team like the storm who've been around for over 10 years now, dominated the their respective comp but have failed to really grow at all. compare them to a younger team like the victory who blow them out of the water who haven't had any sort of success for a while and didn't have the luxury of a huge financial backer like the storm originally had

they'd set the standards as far as membership, active fans and attendances go for the a-league, they haven't had any success for 5 years now but still draw great crowds and interest. they could go on to not win a single thing for the next 10 years and still be stable as they are right now

It happens with Expansion into non-heartland markets. Short term pain for long term gain.

Swans move to Sydney in 1982, crowds drop.
Bears introducted in 1987, crowds drop.

Swans now have the highest average attendance of all clubs in all codes in Sydney.
Brisbane for a time were averaging higher than the Broncos.

The key impact that expansion teams have is on away crowds. While they're being established noone wants to go see them when they're in town. Look at Brisbane. When they started they averaged away crowds of only 13k. 2002-2007 (during their succesful run) they averaged away crowds over 30k.

It's already starting to happen with the Suns and Giants, just gradually as they become more competitive. Suns' away crowd average has gone from 24k in 2011 to 28k this year, and GWS' from 20k to 22k.

Contrast that with the Storm, who's away average started at 14k and has now fallen to 12k this year. Looks like nRL fans still haven't warmed to watching their team host an expansion club.
