State of Origin: Jarryd Hayne could play NFL tomorrow
State of Origin: Jarryd Hayne could play NFL tomorrow
REGGIE Bush has a Los Angeles pad on the market for $6 million.
He has a Super Bowl ring. Won, then forfeited, a Heisman trophy. Even went out with Kim Kardashian.
In short, it takes more than a little to shock him.
“But this guy — wow,’’ the NFL running back exclaims now, watching as a highlights reel of Jarryd Hayne plays out on a laptop.
“He actually looks like an NFL running back. Looks like he could come play with us tomorrow.
“Although, wait, what’s that there … did he just throw the ball over a tackler’s head? Is that even legal?’’
And so you press pause, then rewind.
Explaining to one of the most gifted athletes in American football how — in that swirl of action he mistook for a throw — the guy wearing Parramatta’s No.1 jersey actually dropped the ball onto his foot, chipped over the defender, regathered with one hand and then scored our equivalent of a touchdown.
“Wow,’’ the Detroit Lion continues as the play unfolds again in slow motion. “That’s one sweet move.”
Ironically, the 29-year-old American football star — currently in Sydney on a whirlwind promotional tour — is one of the very running backs who, for years, Hayne has studied in a bid to improve his own attacking game.
“Really? That’s humbling,’’ Bush continues, keeping both eyes on the highlights reel. “I can’t wait to see him play.
“He’s fast, strong and … wow! Look at that hit. That’s an NFL football hit. I like this guy.”
Currently preparing for his ninth season of NFL — and second with the Detroit Lions — Bush has been handpicked by the organisation to travel Down Under and spruik new broadcasting deals with both Channel Seven and ESPN.
Former Maroon Gorden Tallis assesses Queensland's chance of keeping their State of Origin streak alive with victory in game two, despite Mal Meninga's side having plenty of key players under injury clouds.
As part of the agreement, both stations will show 2014 games live, while ESPN is also introducing an NFL RedZone — which alternates between the best action of all Sunday afternoon games, going live whenever a team goes inside the 20-yard line.
Bush, for his part, hopes to be in said vision plenty.
Once rated the most exciting prospect in college football the Lions veteran is now in arguably his greatest running form since turning professional.
Despite being surrounded by impossible hype his entire career (Adidas filmed a commercial around he and David Beckham in only his second season) the noted gym junkie has regularly produced and better, survived.
Arriving in Sydney with just two days till Origin II League correspondent Steve Hart says the mood around the Blues' camp is one of excitement
Covering 40 yards in 4.3 seconds, and able to squat 210kg in repetitions of five, the Detroit speedster also boasts the type of lateral movement that once saw team-mates dubbing him ‘Baby Matrix’.
“For me it’s all about speed, agility, elusiveness – exactly the same as Jarryd,’’ he says. “While I don’t really know anything about this Origin thing I am really looking forward to it.
“Especially now. Jarryd’s definitely going to be in this game Wednesday night, right?’’

lol how, NFL does require some brains to play unlike NRL!
the only way he could play NFL was to get him on the roids & use him as a blocker

nrl players have trouble stringing a sentence together let alone trying to understand a new game, you could teach a team of monkeys to play in a league team. jog up the field in a straight line & throw the ball sideways to your team mate.
skill wise throwing the ball side ways is useless in the NFL

Re: State of Origin: Jarryd Hayne could play NFL tomorrow
Yes it certainly proves the point. The AFL can and does only produce kickers for the NFL. Rl could provide players who play on the field for much longer than the 45odd seconds per match the AFL punters would spend on the NFL pitch. It really proves who the more athletic athletes are. Tho physically, this can be quite easily summed up with the naked eye.
What goggles are you AFL freaks wearing? Seriously, nrl has the better athletes, by a mile. Dave has said it before. The AFL puts some real good trotters on the pitch week in week out. Trotters who could out trot ur avg NFL and nrl players. But athletes? No the AFL doesn't produce the best athletes in comparison.
Yours truly,
KE

Lets start with AFL players who made it in the NFL already shall we?
Darren Bennettwikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darren_Ben ... _player%29As an Australian rules footballer, he played for East Fremantle in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) between 1982 and 1987 and then in the Australian Football League (AFL) for the West Coast Eagles and the Melbourne Football Club. He was most successful at Melbourne, where he was named as one of the club's 150 Heroes of the last 150 years, kicking 215 goals from just 74 games for the club.
As an American football player, following a three club career in the National Football League he is regarded as one of the greatest players of the 1990s and a member of the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team.
This combination made him notable as arguably the most successful of the Australian sportsmen linked to professional American Football in history.
Ben GrahamWikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Graham ... _player%29Graham's 219 game Australian Rules career was played exclusively at the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League between 1993 and 2004. As an Aussie Rules player, Graham was long noted for his ability to kick extraordinarily long distances with accuracy (in particular his expertise at the torpedo punt). This is one of the key reasons that he was believed to have potential as a professional NFL punter.
He is the only player to be named a captain of both an AFL and NFL side. During his career he has played in the biggest game in two codes, the AFL Grand Final (1995 AFL Grand Final) and the Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLIII). He was the first Australian to have played in a Super Bowl.
Saverio Roccawikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saverio_RoccaHe is one of the few players who have converted from professional Australian rules football to professional American football. During his time in the Australian Football League, he became one of the most successful goalkickers in the history of the competition. In a career which spanned 14 years, he ranked 13th in the AFL all-time goalkicking records. While he averaged just under three goals a game, he was noted more for his ability to kick accurately from great distances which ultimately led to his trial for the Eagles.
When he converted to American football, he made history as the oldest rookie in the history of the NFL, taking the mantle from fellow Australian Ben Graham.
Those are the best examples - theres a list of them here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian ... _NFL_clubs
which is what I thought I said

Face it like Origin, and billion dollar tv ratings, rugby league follows the AFL like a lost little lamb

NRL lol cant even fill a stadium in their own home land, out side of the grand final, even it struggles to sell out, plenty of last minute discounted tickets

Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million
Leagueiscrap
and she still changes your nappies as well!

Re: State of Origin: Jarryd Hayne could play NFL tomorrow
the NRL sold out a stadium in melbourne this year. that's awkward. And there have been other sellouts too, Para sold out a home game. that ANZAC day game sold out 45k or whatever. Sold out Eden Park for 90k over 2 days in a preseason tournie. But yea, can't fill out a ground dipshit.
