that does kind of lend credence to the idea that Origin is an event in its own right rather than a part of the season, simply because those ratings arent reflected at any other time.

Dear Swans Forever the issue with the 5 city ratings is they don't include the regionals for NSW/QLD/ACT which have a significant impact on the NRL ratings as the Wookie can attest to. This is because around half the NRL supporter base live in these areas.

Quietly confident that Canberra,Townsville,Newcastle,Cairns etc are part of the Australian islands

Think you need to focus a bit more and don't get too paranoid about the reach of the NRL as clearly it distresses you.
