you wouldn't rave about the job the cowboys have done, but they have done well, as central and northern qld is NRL heart land but the last few years AFL has grown a bit in popularity :D , financially the cowboys, their leagues club backs on to dairyfarmers stadium & are heavenly dependent on it for revenue. townsville is a rather wealthy town full of minors/trucking, farmers, defenceforce, unistudants - not like many poor coastal towns
popularity of RL is big up here thanks to family involvement, AFL is only slowly starting to have a presents but league still rules, league is in the blood lines of the locals that is passed through generation to generation. The cowboys are the local big NRL team that every one supports. A lot of the locals have this us vs them mentality, which its interesting when the cowboys play the broncos there is a lot of hatred to the broncos
