How would you make AFL a less embarrassing looking game?
So your appointed head of strategy of AFL and told do what it takes to make AFL look less ridiculous.
What changes would you make?
This got me thinking
Here a few for starters
Change the uniform style. Loose fit singlets and shorts more like what the soccer players wear would be the new uniform.
Get rid of the extra set of goals to make it more of a challenge to score. Hence no need for the guys with the fingure signals anymore.
Maybe improve those terrible team songs while your at it.

Re: How would you improve AFL from looking like such a silly game?
Limit interchanges to 5 per quarter. This will tire players more, reducing the excessive zoning we have in the modern game which limits scoring. I also agree with the recent suggestions of a 17 round season with a longer final series. This would even out the inequitable fixture, and bring eve greater interest to the end of the season
Scoring zone should remain the same as they allow for many different scoring permutations, reducing draws. Uniforms should remain the same. Baggy clothes would make tackling too easy. If you think the gernseys are singlets you clearly havent seen one up close. Club songs are historical and they should definitely stay

Can you take the fumble out of fumbleball?? I spose not, it's an inherent part of the game. It does make the game look very very silly though. Maybe play with a soccer ball to give the poor buggers a chance to grab it rather than continually fumble it.
And yeah......no point for missing.....that's another very silly one. I mean...in what other pro sport do you get a bonus point for trying really, really hard.....lololololololol

Re: How would you make AFL a less silly looking game?
It's an inherent part of a game where you cannot legally hold on to the ball and maintain possession if tackled. Players who attempt this are penalised. Unlike RL where you can simply hold the ball, absorb the tackle, and still maintain possession. It's the glaring difference between both codes. AFL looks fumbly to you, RL looks static to me. It has nothing to do with the shape of the ball.
this has been discussed multiple times on this forum. You can score 4 runs in cricket for completely missing the ball and allowing it to hit your body. In the AFL you cannot score a goal if you hit the goal post. In RL you can as long as the ball goes through after contacting the post. In RL you can be caught with the ball yet retain possession. You can score by simply falling on the ground, an area the entire width of the ground.

Have them line up on opposite sides of the ground and run into each other 5 times before kicking it. Don't allow the ball carroer to be striped of the ball if more than 1 tackler. Allow players who are tackled to simply just go to ground and hold the ball ... and allow them to maintain possession.
Seriously though ... two completely different games. A juvenile question at best that tries to view another game from the perspective of another.

The question pertains to fumbleball Fredo and we,re all trying to help improve the fumbling bumbling mess it is.Fred wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2017 3:42 pmHave them line up on opposite sides of the ground and run into each other 5 times before kicking it. A soccer ball won't go so well.how about a rugby league ball, it's bigger than a afl ball and made of rubber not leather like a rugby league ball, so it would be far easier to catch and control.Terry wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2017 2:21 pmCan you take the fumble out of fumbleball?? Terry, how do they go over longer distances? Say like 7 meters? Only asking as in league the passes don't often go over that distance and the players still seem to have lots of trouble handling the ball?

I'd improve fumbleball by banning bananas at grounds
& banning their racist supporters from posting their racist crap on sports forums.
Glad I could help

Re: How would you make AFL a less silly looking game?
I would agree with your second comment.
But seriously I would have the play on rule for kicks good by backward. Unless in 50 forward arch.
Also make it 16 a side.
Award the team that finished top the premiership cup and best team status then have a finals play off. Make grand final fir that comp best of three.
Alternatively, have playoff with 1 and 2 to decide best team.

I would combine the women's and men's games and make them all wear skirts.
Or better still, you could rename the game .... 'Male Netball' or maybe 'fun for morons'

The game is making such steady and relentless progress against League which is completely unable to show its face outside its haven states that reason would argue "Let it rip"
