The game also benefited from a record number of club memberships, a rise in ticket prices and increase in crowd figures, and a spike in participation largely fuelled by the decision to merge with touch football.

The latest figures put the NRL well ahead of schedule after revealing last year that it was hoping to achieve a central revenue target of $300m by 2017.

While the AFL is still ahead on revenues, it is understood the NRL is closing the gap and heading towards a strong position for the next broadcast rights deal when the current arrangement finishes at the end of 2017.

It is believed half of the net profit will be put towards a sustainability fund which already has $50m as a financial buffer for the code.

The NRL announced last year it hoped to have $80m in savings by the end of 2017.

Last year’s net profit figure of $50m is around the same as 2013 — it was $49.6 million in 2014 — and could have been higher but expenditure also increased.

In 2013 the game outlaid $265m and it is believed that figure swelled last year to $295m due to a number of factors including an increase in club funding and development, more funds for state leagues and affiliates, and the addition of senior management positions at Rugby League Central.

Bullshit. Revenue increases this year were mainly driven by non broadcast sources - primarily ticket price increases at Origin and FInals. Non broadcast revenue jumped 20 million to 119 million, broadcast revenue rose 4 million. FFA total revenue was only 136 million, so not going to be behind there. Union might be close, revenue should come in at around 145 million - 150 million with only 25 million in tv revenue last year.

Slow start to the season in some respects can be easily attributed to the World Cup by any fair minded individual - not to mention its only round 3, and the gap is about 20,000 - or one decent match crowd.

Your a fucking idiot.
You've told him this before about the revenue ,yet he just ignores it & keeps posting the same crap over & over .

yeah cause i dont do my own analysis. And you have proven you cant read them worth a damn.
your analysis is rubbish compared to what is actually written on the reports, the NRL's non broadcast revenue will rise, mainly due to the jacked up SOO ticket prices & sales of Merchandise, proving outside of SOO their no broadcast revenue is a joke.

the total Union revenue was $145 million nonbroadcast $101 million
the AFL's non broadcast revenue was $267 million
the NRL's non broadcast revenue was a pissy $90 million SOO contributes $19.4 million of that
all stats from the annual reports
viewtopic.php?f=54&t=4792

so tell me what is the higher number wookie? & how am i fucken wrong!.... all these people apparently watch league & play every week, yet the revenue is so fucken low!..... you would see a flow on effect with more money coming in to NRL!
take out that $19 million & we have the nonbroadcast revenue figure of just on $70 million FFS.
even go and read the clubs annual reports & compare the football related revenue streams

you have any idea about business?... or just spend all your spare time convincing yourself you know how to read and understand a annual report

there is a little chart you made up your self FFS from the 2013 annual reports. when the 2014 we can take the actual fact figures and argue about them then instead of speculate!

Yeah but you go up against Prime Time shows as well
that get in the 1+ million that night..

in the afternoon the shows get 100k

I would say you would prob get a lower figure in NSW AND QLD
as the competition for that avg viewer would be higher..
