With little else to celebrate I can understand why you'd want this.

You’d think with all the other SOO threads currently active & only been created in the past month or so that would be enough!SportCapital wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:09 amWith little else to celebrate I can understand why you'd want this.
Nup! When you are being hammered in all those threads it’s best to start a new one so that little insular bubble world can start again

SOO is clearly the biggest most watched event of all the codes. It clearly illustrates that rugby league is the most important game in the nation. It occurs thrice, every year and it’s, well it’s here to stay.
So common now Wookie, be a good admin do some meditation to clear the mind of all bitterness and post it up there in the sticky section for us will ya

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
State of Origin
The first 'state of origin' game was an Australian Rules Football game between Western Australia (WA) and Victoria, at Subiaco Oval in Perth on 8 October 1977.
In 1989, a crowd of 91,960 saw Victoria beat South Australia at the MCG.
This is the highest attendance for any SOO game of any code.
The last AFL SOO was in 1999. Support dropped after the introduction of a National league and fans preferred club football to state football, however there was no year in which a SOO game exceeded the highest attended club game.
After Queensland lost the first two interstate matches in 1980 (35–3 and 17–7, the second game in front of only 1,638 Sydneysiders) it was announced that a 'state of origin' match would take place on 8 July at Lang Park in Brisbane. The SOO concept was not fully adopted until 1982.
The highest attendance for a RL SOO game is 91,513, at Victoria’s MCG.
There are several seasons where the RL SOO was the highest attended game that year.
The MCG also has the 3rd highest attendance for a RL SOO, 87,122, in 2018.
And of course RL SOO hold the current attendance record at Optus Oval.

There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
Yes agreed. I think it is hard to get the same rivalry when you have more than two states where players are drawn from to play soo. The rivalry is great and adds to the excitement. Plus getting a crowd adds to the whole thing. Apparently there is nothing like being there. Although I am told rl is best to watch on tv.... hence poor crowds h and a bit you just can’t beat a large crowd atmosphere with passionate supporters.

Re: State of Origin - the greatest game of all
There is no doubting the popularity of SOO in the non Rugby League states, and the Perth attendance was fantastic and now holds, not by much, the Optus record.
I think there are several reasons for it, including some great promotional work by the NRL and they are marketed as events more than a game and we all should be aware that Melbourne audiences love an event.
It is a mute point but I don’t think the attendance or popularity would be maintained if the series was not shared between cities. Nor do I believe that SOO has led or will lead to an increased interest of the code in the non RL cities, I could be mistaken.
2015, 91,513 only the AFL grand final had a greater attendance
2018 , 87,122 8 Melbourne AFL games exceeded the SOO attendance
2006, 54,833 (Docklands) 18 AFL games had a higher attendance
