The fact is Melbourners don't mind a major game of Rugby League to turn out in numbers like that.
And the fact is AFL has never gotten a crowd near that in NSW & Qld.
State of Origin is selling really well for Perth this year too. Another AFL heartland state loving their Rugby League.

Re: RL Icon suggests saving the NRL by reducing it to twelve teams!
No doubt SoO is a marquee event... thatβs why it rates extremely well and draws great crowds wherever it is played in Australia. Any marquee event does that in Melbourne. Throw the super ball there and watch them turn up. This is why it also draws a crowd in nsw as opposed to regular games. Throw the nrl gf in there as well. If they played the afl grand final in Sydney that held 100000 do you not think they would near fill it ? Of course they would ... itβs a marquee event. Youβd also get a lot travelling up for the game too. Or over for it. Maybe down for it. Depends who is playing.

What doesnβt the Minnowbourne Storm rate or get crowds any where near any other Victorian based club and whybare they still so minnow and irrelevant
Also Sydney and Brisbane donβt have a stadium as big as the mcg!
Also the afl has achieve better H&A and finals game crowd than the nrlol ever has in sydney

Not in NSW or Qld they haven't. ANZ holds around 80,000. AFL has'nt even filled that for a major AFL game in NSW.The_Wookie wrote: βMon May 27, 2019 9:39 amMight be surprised what the average AFL fan in Melbourne can imagine.NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: βSat May 25, 2019 8:59 amThe AFL fan just can't comprehend 91,000 at a Rugby League game in Melbourne.

It's an outrage. I'll make up bargain tickets to make me feel better.
91,000? I mean it pulled almost that much before. And its not that special.
AFL games have pulled more than that - every year. Opening day of the Boxing Day Test has pulled more than that. International soccer has pulled more than that. Concerts have pulled more than that. The Commonwealth Games pulled more than that.
One reason it is being converted permanently to a rectangular stadium.

Re: RL Icon suggests saving the NRL by reducing it to twelve teams!
Their largest AFL crowd was actually 72,394 in Sydney between Swans and Collingwod. That was way back in 2003. They could have gotten 82,000 which was about the stadiums capacity for when it is converted to an oval stadium then.The_Wookie wrote: βThu Jun 13, 2019 8:30 pmNote that I responded to your post claiming that Melbournians couldnt comprehend a crowd of 91,000 in Melbourne. Im well aware of ANZs capacity and rebuild, and the Swans largest crowd there was 73,000 - but its got nothing to do with my reply.NRL&NFLweLaughATafl wrote: βThu Jun 13, 2019 5:21 pmNot in NSW or Qld they haven't. State of Origin still blitzed them in Melbourne with 91,000. And it was two out of state teams. Sydney Swans were a 1 state AFL team in 2003 with a decent history.
In 2016 AFL held a finals elimination between 2 Sydney AFL teams. Their crowd was substantially less than 72,394 they got in 2016.
60,022 for the Swans and Giants. 12,000 less with 2 Sydney AFL teams!!!
And 30,000 less than State of Origin got in Melbourne in the same era.

Re: RL Icon suggests saving the NRL by reducing it to twelve teams!
You're a dipshit. More pointless comparisons.
There's no stadium to hold that many for an afl game and no game of equal relevance to play there. Only 60k to a Sydney v Sydney afl elimination final...
Those are absolute dream numbers for you lot.
You mentioned capacity yet don't seem to understand what it means.

Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.
