Sponsors on Tigers trail
By Brad Walter
October 3, 2005

Wests Tigers this week will begin announcing a raft of new sponsors for 2006 that will double the value of the club's playing kit to $2.1 million.

After years of struggling to find and retain sponsors, the Tigers' on-field success this season has translated into a financial windfall for the club.

An international car company will be unveiled at Telstra Stadium on Thursday as the club's major sponsor in a record deal for the club, and new sponsors' names will be on the back of the team's jersey and shorts next season.

With Wokka Noodles remaining as the sleeve sponsor, the total value of the Wests Tigers jersey next year will be $1.5million. Apparel provider and boot manufacturer X-Blades and the new shorts sponsor will provide another $600,000.

The Tigers' playing strip worn last night was worth about $1.2million in sponsorship and the club was thankful to receive that amount after 2004 backer Herbal World went into receivership a week before the premiership started.
Wests Tigers have had a different name on their jerseys in each of the six seasons of the club's existence.

The increased profile of the Tigers has enabled the club to command the type of sponsorship money only Sydney Roosters and the Bulldogs had been able to attract in recent years.

"Last year we had 1/26th of the media coverage that the Roosters or the Bulldogs got, and that makes it hard to compete when you're chasing sponsors, " Tigers marketing manager Steve McGee said. "Even though they'd be pitching for a $1 million deal and we were pitching for $600,000 or $700,000 deals, the multi-national companies we were dealing with would prefer to spend more to go with them."

McGee said the new major sponsorship deal, understood to be with Malaysia's Proton Cars, would be for three years.
They played tremendous footy over the last 3 months, and IMO were deserving premiers this year.

Next year they will be even better, with all their names resigned, and the likes of O'hara, Sam Harris, Gallaway and Lolesi to come into the side.

If they can keep Prince and Marshall beyond 2006, they have the potential to win severl more times in the next 5 years.. or so..

They have the coach, and now the money to compete with the Dogs, Broncos and Rorters...

Go WESTS!!!

Jesus, you are one deluded fool. The dogs are dead, the broncos are now battlers, the roosters are a bunch of pansy boys who played tough for two seasons.

The eels you have not mentioned and i am quite happy with that 'cause i'll be putting some cash on em next season.

My only regret about the Tigers winning the comp this year was that the Tigers couldn't smash the Eels in the GF instead of the Cowboys...

Who do you follow diehard?

The eels didnt choke either. Choking to me is when a team or player plays well below the level they can due to pressure or anxiety.

To me the eels did the opposite of choking a few sundays ago. They looked too bloody calm, and basically weren't their usual selves at all from start to finish. They were rated to win the match and after they coughed the ball up on several attacking raids and came up with no points the game was all over.

Nope it wasnt choking, but i guess many who know nothing of sports psychology could call it that.
