Speaking on the NRL Footy Show, he reckons every Indigenous Australian has rugby league as their number one sport before proceeding to go on about all the wonderful opportunities rugby league provides for Indigenous Australians. This being the same sport where he was called a black c*** just a few weeks back.

Fair dinkum Widders you tosser, travel outside of NSW and see what the preferred footy code of Indigenous Australians is. Many more Indigenous Australians play Australia's Indigenous footy code Australian Football.

When was the last time he got to play for an Aboriginal All-Stars team. He makes me sick.

He is your typical johhny come lately self appointed spokesperson for Aboriginal people. The fool has no idea what he is talking about and I doubt very much this person is even known within the Aboriginal community.

NRL is a joke and many Aboriginal people think so as well. Hell look at these 'Aboriginal' role models who play NRL. Many of them you would have to question their identity.

The only decent Aboriginal NRL player which many would agree is Anthony Mundine. The Man is widely respected and took the NRL with it's racist attitudes and then got out!

Widdens is a nobody and will remain so. How can you support a so-called 'football' code that is racist, full of boof heads and sexist? Aboriginal people don't look at these attributes as being honorable!

I would think AFL has had more racist remarks and attitudes from its players and representatives than rugby league has? This may be solely because more aboriginal people play AFL but that doesnt excuse the amount of racism that has occurred in AFL.

And beaussie what the hell are you doing watching the RL footy show? You watch it every thursday and you watch rugby league games often yet you hate the sport with a passion? The only way i can explain it is RL has such a grip on you you just cant close your eyes to it. I understand though, it is tough when you're living smack bang in RL heartland!

I'm a great fan of Law and Order and only watched the NRL Footy Show last night because I was hoping to see something on the Swans. The show is absolute shit. I tell you it was very difficult staying tuned in with the ridiculous variety crap they go with. No wonder the ratings are so abysmal.

Well i missed the show last night, but dean widders is one of the most naturally talented footy players going. Yes he may be a little deluded about his people preferring RL but RL does provide good opportunities for indigenous people, and non indigenous for that matter. And im still sure there's been much less racism in the code than in AFL. :P

Who the fuck is Dean Widders? Is he a self appointed member of the National Indigenous Council as well?

Didn't a guy called Nicky Winmar cop an absolute racist bollocking from the crowds in the AFL a couple of years ago??

Also... do the Cowboys have any Indigenous Queenslanders ( you know that big area outside of NSW) playing for them in the GF on Sunday??

Matt Bowen has scored an early victory for the Cowboys edging out Parramatta's Dean Widders to be named the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Male Sportsperson of the Year at the Sydney Opera House last night.

Bowen beat a host of sporting stars for the `Deadly's Award' but took some pleasure in singling out his good friend and Telstra Stadium opponent on Sunday Dean Widders.

"I congratulate all the nominees and wish them well," he said.

"I would like to wish Deano all the best but I can't as we have a little game to play on Sunday."

The audience in the Concert Hall enjoyed the exchange, with Widders having been a crowd favourite when presenting an earlier award.

Both the Cowboys and the small community of Hope Vale north of Cooktown had further reason to celebrate when Matt's cousin Brenton was awarded the `Most Promising New Athlete In Sport', just pipping Melbourne's Greg Inglis.

Many years ago yes, and the AFL acted swiftly with a new racial vilification code, to which it took the NRL another few before it followed suit.

When compared to the rest of Australia, it really is insignificant. Australian Football is the code of choice for the majority of Indigenous Australians. There is no doubt about that.

The Deadly Awards always have been a Sydney centric based awards ceremony.

The so called deadly awards are made up mainly of wannabe Aborigines who use their heritage as a money making exercise!

Beaussie, if the Deadlys were as such as you have dribbled, you obviously didn't notice the Non Sydney Indigenous represtentation that received awards. Although most were not to do with sports, O'loughlin got AFL sportsperson of the year so was this therefore a farce as he is Sydney based?
