TV Ratings Victory for the AFL/Swans in Sydney

Post by Beaussie »

The Sydney bandwagon is most certainly in full motion now. Impressive figures for Brisbane too. Where are all those league supporting scumbags now who say AFL can never rate in the northern states.

They'll be quite over at LU this week that's for sure.

The Sydney Swans did the Ten Network proud on Friday night, powering it to a win on the night and providing, finally, the most watch match of the AFL finals season so far.

More than 1.828 million people watched the broadcast, with the audience in Sydney doubling on the levels of the two previous Friday nights at 414,000. Even Brisbane viewers switched on, the audience up there more than doubling as well to 171,000.

But Melbourne saw an average audience of a massive 765,000, 259,000 in Adelaide and 219,000 in Perth.

Ten won the night with a 34.8% share, Seven was second on 25.2% and Nine was third with a 22.8% share. The ABC was down on 13.2% and SBS was on par with a 4.0% share (a bit come down from the high teens with the second night of the last Ashes test a week earlier.

Ten won Sydney narrowly though, despite the presence of the Swans. Ten finished 0.2% in front of Seven, 29.6% to 29.4%. Nine was way back on 23.1%. ten had big wins in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, but Nine won Brisbane from Seven with Ten a distant third.

The game peaked at more than 2.2 million viewers between 10.15 and 10.30 when the Swans ran away with the match.

The other interest from Friday night was once again the clear dominance that Seven News, Today Tonight and Home and Away has over Nine’s News, A Current Affair and Temptation at the moment in the 6 pm to 7.30 pm timeslot.

Friday night also saw a jump in Better Homes and Gardens figures to an average audience of more than 1.26 million: non-AFL viewers boosting viewing levels perhaps?

Nine's Survivor Guatemala started Friday night and did sort of okay with 1.056 million.

Next Friday night will be a better test when there's no AFL : or a sort of Australian game of Survivor, on another Network.
