Yes - the academy is doing well - a strong grassroots now has somewhere to go to get developed. Well done Suns and AFL on this front.

This is promising as the two local teams will eventually become less and less reliant on the interstate recruiting, having more home grown talent to consider.

Gold Coast could pick 5 locals this draft….but will need to delist a few to fit them in.

So you have a few extra players in another state of one country lol..
Hardly impressive. Maybe start boasting when you can recruit players from Fiji, England, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea.

Still a sport that continuously fails to gain any traction in overseas markets

Only NRL fans seem to care that Australian Rules Football is not an international sport.

It is called Australian for a reason…it is Australian.
Personally I prefer it that way…we don’t lose our best to overseas….like is going to happen more to both codes of rugby soon.
And hardly impressive!, just the Suns have used 12 local players this year…add the lions and wow…now the Storm…..arguably the most successful (on the table) NRL club in recent times…..local players this year…..0.

The Melbourne storm still can’t attract any interest from locals from Victoria after 30 years

Again you have little idea about anything

Not really, soccer fans say the same thing about AFL too. The simple facts are, if no other country likes your code, YOU KNOW IT'S A LEMON. #AFL

The facts are AFL has half the number of teams as the NRL in Qld. Rugby League has more professional teams than the AFL too. 12 teams in the UK SuperLeague on top of the NRLs 17 teams.

18 teams in AFL in JUST ONE COUNTRY. :(/

Leesds Rhinos Vs ST Helens. Where are those UK AFL teams ?

You guys claim that League is a popular game played world wide and some 90% of its professional teams are based in NSW and Queensland half a country! Lol

I think we all agree that AFL is not an international sport in the way rl or union is. I don’t think people who follow AFL really care / I think the AFL as a business would love to grow it but for the life of me I can’t see the need or more pre Isley care. AFL definitely growing in qld but I would say nrl seems to have clawed some of that back last couple of years

AFL is the easiest, lamest, unskilled rabble of a game to learn and play. The poor kids in Qld that make the draft have sadly failed at every other sport and have thankfully taken the easy route to AFL. Thank god for the fumbling game. The player path for failed athletes everywhere. Lololololol!!!
