Why does AFL try to claim to be like the Superbowl when the NRL final is clearly way more similar to the U.S event.?

The stadium, the players, the game, the culture of the NRL is way more like NFL than the AFL will ever be. The AFL is like Gaelic football & nothing like the NFL.

The AFL Grand Final and the Superbowl are very very alike.
Not in game playing rules but the amount of National pride and passion both events generate.
Both are much loved sporting events representing a sport unique to its country and developed from within.
NFL is the favourite much loved sport in the USA.
AFL is the favourite much loved sport in Australia.

they're nothing alike
the Superbowl is the focus from sea to shining sea in the USA .... coast to coast
the drops & noodle arms GF is about as big as an NRL game between the Sharks & Manly in NSW & QLD

there is zero national pride in the fumbling game because half the nation couldn't care less about it

Everything youve said here applies to the NRL Grand Final as well. And the ratings bear that out for the NRL too.azif wrote: Tue Oct 29, 2024 6:56 am

Not culturally though. The culture of NRL is way more similar to NFL than AFL. Also the style of play of NRL is way more similar to NFL.Bbear wrote: Mon Oct 28, 2024 10:00 pmThe AFL Grand Final and the Superbowl are very very alike.

Americans themselves even say Rugby League reminds them of NFL without pads. I have never ever heard that said about AFL.

Yes, agree - even names like Broncos etc in the NRL.
and of course Australian Rules footy is very Australian - I do remember when the Eagles came in there were some critical that it was American like in the naming (failing to note australia has eagles lol). So yes, agree, I mean - Broncos???

both codes are littered with American Jingoistic emblems , or non Australian ones
NRL is much more relatable to NFL fans
& while all 3 codes have their roots in Rugby Union , there is no 2 sports closer then NRL & NFL
both have set plays from scrimage
union rolls of mauls & is different
NFL stops after the ball is down .... NRL after a tackle
NRL starts again much quicker , less then 5 seconds through a play the ball .... NFL can take a lot longer , through a line of scrimage that looks like a large play the ball
they look alike on the surface

You need to look at most of your previous posts, you are arguing against yourself.
Non-sensical even for you.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Re: Why does AFL try to claim to be like the Superbowl when the NRL final is clearly way more similar to the U.S event.?
Yes - nrl is in some ways a lot like nfl - AFL is totally unique. It is a game invented in Australia by Australians. NRL or rl is an English game - and American football is likely derived from the English ru as well. The only thing the same with nrl and AFL is maybe that they are both largely unique to their home country. There is nothing Australian about rugby or ruby union no more so than there is for soccer or cricket.azif wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:35 pmfumbleball is hardly very australian , certainly no more then the NRL isFred wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 5:10 pmGlobalRugbyLeague wrote: Mon Nov 11, 2024 3:20 pm

Astrakhan Rules was invented in Australia - you can’t get more Australian than that - it’s as Aussie as meat pies and Holden cars.

It’s as Australian as nfl is American. Invented here. Only other sport invented in Australia - polo cross I believe. Although would you add the rl version of touch football ? Maybe .
