Welcome to the NRL , the Western Bears
all but official
Perth will make its return to elite Rugby League for the first time in 30 years in 2027 with an historic partnership with one of the games foundation clubs , the North Sydney Bears
The Western Bears will join the NRL , the famous Bears logo , colours red , black white & a splash of yellow ( to recognise the reds )
playing out of Optus oval V the Warriors ( HBF won't be big enough for this game )
HBF park
& 1 annual home game in Sydney V Manly at Allianz stadium each year
watch bears fans from all over the world rush to sign up as members & get tickets to that game in Sydney
the emotion will be palpable , sons will bring their dads & grand fathers to see their beloved bears again & relive that iconic 91 years of history
This mob will have 50K members in their first year ... might even push the Broncos & their 60K
just great , great news for Rugby League

Re: Welcome to the NRL , the Western Bears
Good to see Perth get a team finally. Are they are Perth team or. Sydney team? Whilst I hope it goes really well id ask the question of 1 team belonging to two states or areas - I think this is one of many mistakes the giants have made - but I thi k with Perth - if you give them a successful side they would jump on board regardless. Are bears fans happy with “their” team not playing locally in the main?

They will use the Red Black colours of the Bears while adding white and yellow to the Jersey.
Headquarters and training facilities will be in PERTH
Feeder Club will be in North Sydney. ( for majority of players)
City based comp in WA will be built up from its current pathways to generate home grown players.
Current agreement has
H&A fixture
11 games PERTH
1 game in Sydney
1 trial at North Sydney Oval

They're a WA side , & belong to the people of Perth & WA only , no one else... Norths fans are happy as as far as i can see with amazing reaction online to the newsFred wrote: Sat Aug 10, 2024 2:06 pmGood to see Perth get a team finally. Are they are Perth team or. Sydney team? they get to buy in & see their beloved bears back in the top grade again running around against their old foes & that has been a 25 year campaign by North Sydney to be reborn.
The 1 home game & 1 trial in Sydney , as well as the times they're the away side in Sydney & other places will give bears fans plenty of opportunities to watch them live , as well as buy memberships & merch etc
Perth get a strong logo, colours & tap into a huge latent supporter base not just in Sydney , but everywhere thats been crying out for re-involvement, plus use North Sydneys already established pathways system that they will take over & fund in conjunction with Norths Leagues.
Matts ( U15s')
Ball ( U17's)
Flegg ( U19s)
NSW cup where they will play the players not used in the NRL game day 17
I understand all of these players 15's to NSW cup , except those in the top 30 squad ... will be based in Sydney .. in season.
Already a very organised franchise.
This club will be very successful

Sounds good and about time. Seems it’s a win win win - for Perth, old bears supporters, and the nrl. Will it be run by the current bears board or will it be a Perth based board?

Perth , the guy that owns cash converters will head a private consortium that will own the team & the WA Govt will provide a significant amount of $$Fred wrote: Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:18 amSounds good and about time. The last 2 WA premiers are huge NRL fans , Mark McGowan who was raised in NSW & moved to WA as a teenager was the man who kicked off the WA govts funding commitment & Roger Cook who was WA born but played league not AFL as a youngster ... & has continued McGowans crusade

This club will be very successful
Especially if the can play at a bigger Venue. (Optus Stadium)
Would prefer a Upgrade at HBF Stadium
Average Crowd is hard to figure depending which stadium they play at.
Very Promising CLUB in the future.
it is good NRL is adding Instant Hits to the expanded comp.

if people want to guarantee their seat at that historic game against Manly in Sydney at Allianz , they'll need to buy a non WA membership
30,000 of them sold over night if thats the case
such a bright future

WA election 2025: Roger Cook rules out taxpayers’ money for NRL deal in last minute campaign revelation
https://thewest.com.au/sport/rugby-leag ... -west-news
The NRL will not receive a single dollar of taxpayers’ money, Roger Cook has vowed, buckling to pressure over negotiations in a last-minute campaign revelation.
Speaking at The West Australian’s Leadership Matters breakfast on Tuesday, the Premier ruled out any money being paid to the League as part of a deal.
The comments came after weeks of pressure on Mr Cook to disclose how much he would be willing to spend to bring the Western Bears to Perth as part of expansion negotiations with the NRL.
Pushed on whether spending money to lure a team west was appropriate during WA’s prolonged cost-of-living crisis, the Premier making his pitch, insisted a deal would be good for the State’s economy.
“Sport and indeed, national sport franchises are big business, and it’s a great opportunity for our economy, but not a single dollar of taxpayers’ dollars will go to the NRL,” he said.
“We want to make sure that if Western Australia is to participate in another national competition, and I think we should, and I made that very clear all along, but it has to be good value for money for WA taxpayers, and it has to be a benefit to the WA economy.”
Mr Cook’s resolve against a fee to join the league came after revelations last month that he had last-minute talks with NRL boss Peter V’Landys days before the Government entered caretaker mode in February.
At the time it was reported the NRL was demanding a deal to bring a side west could be as high as $320 million, including an eye-watering license fee of $120 million.
Instead, the Government could offer support for upgrades at HBF Park, expected to be the home of the new side, as well as funding to community level sport across WA to grow the league.

Re: Welcome to the NRL , the Western Bears
Yea
it was never going to be 500 million paid directly to the NRL anyway , most was the upgrade of HBF park (320) million
turning it into a 28K seater, with soccer & union benefitting as well
