combined with the staggering numbers of low contact players in tag & touch ( variants of RL )

Touch footy has 700k players affiliated with the NRL. Peter The Great is currently talking to Oz Tag with a view to forming a partnership with them. They have 150k registered players.
That means there are over a million people playing tackle Rugby League or one of the non contact variations. And those numbers are verifiable. Unlike the fumbling game who just pluck numbers outta thin air. Or double or triple count every man, woman, kid, dog, sheep or blow fly that goes anywhere near a fumbling development officer.

Brilliant and Genuis
PVL should 100% align with the NRL
should be working under one BIG BANNER
logo's badges everywhere
Would only benefit contact and non contact versions of the game.
cause as we know only a small number of Athletes can play tackle

Oz tag & the NRL have spoken in the past , but the asking price Perry Haddock asked for was too high according to the NRL. They're talking again.
There are 2 versions of tag ,
Oz Tag ( owned by Haddock, an ex NRL player & ex NRL referee Bill Harrigan ) 150K registered players
& League Tag , a slightly different game with different rules owned by the NRL , unsure how many players there are of this game , but there were 9K female players alone last year
the NRL also owns touch football ...
Touch has been around since the mid 1960's & the tag versions of our game since the early 1990's

Would it be the International Federation of Touch as the controlling body?
https://www.internationaltouch.org/
I would see partnerships as important but see RL and TF as distinctly different as RU and RL - or RU and TF for that matter. All have similarities but I often get called out when I say Rugby when referring to Rugby League.

"This paper looks at the history of Touch since it evolved just 45 years ago. The argument considers facts supporting the sport’s independence and compares Touch with other, like sports, some of which have
retained a linkage to their forefathers.".

Touch football in Australia is owned & controlled by the NRL
this article from 11 years ago says the NRL-TFA is a " partnership ".. it isn't .. while TFA has some autonomy, it is financed by the NRL & answers to it
Touch football is a uniquely Australian sport invented by the South Sydney Rugby league football club as a training tool to keep players fit without contact.
your take that it is different from RL is a typical fumbler take on most things .. completely wrong
It is RL without tackling kicking or scrums
Tag is RL without tackling or scrums , kicking is allowed after the 5th play the ball, as long as the kick does not go higher then average shoulder height.
Rugby League & its variants have more then 2 million " participants " in Australia
& more then 1 million registered club players
most played sport in our nation

Touch is closer to 60 years old , not 45
it wasn't invented in QLD either ,
that article is crap & elements of this one are too , It is a variant of Rugby League is the only thing to take note of

I agree - and I think the article does to - that touch derived from rugby League - the contention in the article is that, like how other codes derived derived from another (e.g., Union from association football, league from Union etc.), that Touch has derived from Rugby League to become a sport in its own right. I have no concern one way or another, just curious on this take given in the article. I agree, I know far to little to make any discerning argument one way or another, although interested previously so looked up some stuff.
so the Federation of international Touch (FIT) what do they govern? do they sit under the NRL or ARL etc.?

How are union & league ... derivatives of other sports ... not sports in their own right ?
FIT may run touch at international level , in Australia touch is run by TFA , but is owned & financed by the sport that started it ...rugby league

Union came from association football (soccer).
League came from Union
Both League and Union are now codes of football in their own right.
The article is stating that Touch - whilst having its origins in RL is now a sport in its own right - just as the others (league and union) have evolved into their own distinct sports, so to, has Touch. That was the essence of the essay”s arguement.
Hence the part of the start of the article I pasted into my initial post linking it

union is nothing like soccer
& to the trained eye , league is nothing like union
touch is identical to league except for tackles & kicks
touch is a low contact version of our sport

Yeah I hear your view - and that of the article. Both different which is fine.
So in addition to tackles and kicking being differenr - they also mention in the article that fields are half the size and there are three referees. Is that the case in touch in general or just in international touch rules?

Plenty of variations of sports include modified sized fields & how many referees do you think RL has ?
thats right .. three
one central & two touch judges
touch football & the 2 types of tag ... low contact forms of league .. the most played team sport in Australia

Yeah touch is really popular sport re participation. Wouldn’t mind having a go myself. Pickleball is also becoming popular - really big in the states apparently. There’s a version of pickleball as well (called something different) I saw on the TV the other night.
