Haha, true!!!!! I'm not sure about this PNG team though. I can't see them attracting enough quality players to make 'em competitive. But as long as the good 'ol taxpayer funds 'em its a no lose situation for the NRL and Peter The Great.
I'd also like to see another NZ team, one in Perth and a 3rd Brisbane team. That'd be a 20 team comp with teams in 3 different countries and Australia's 4 biggest states.
Meanwhile the Australian fumbling league 'expands' to economic powerhouse's Hobart and Darwin lololololololol!!!!! That'll bring 'em exactly ............ummmm..........yeah.........nothing but debt, debt and more debt.....they're just massive money pits. Good work from The Big Dill lololol!!

If Im being honest Tez , Im quite unconfident about this PNG team , as are most NRL fans.
It seems we've been bought by the Govt in a soft diplomatic power play , it won't benefit the sport in the long run & there are better options
but .... the stir value in reminding fumblers that their taxes are directly paying the wages of NRL players might make it worthwhile

I actually think the PNG team will be a success.
(and who cares if not many australians or kiwis dont play for PNG)
the academies pathways and grassroots coming through will be HUGE for PNG
they have the ability to be the biggest NRL CLUB
and i think the NRL should of asked for more than $600 million
Port Moresby could be a really beautiful city.
be interesting the Strategic effort
Australian & PNG Government
put into Infrastructure and surrounds
not just for Rugby League Facilities etc
but Projects and development etc within
Port Moresby (it has the ability to be a really nice city)

It is not often I agree with azif he’s telling the truth or Terribull, but I think it a very courageous call.

What i fine interesting..
NRL are definitely adding another NZ TEAM
you would think PERTH will also be added at around same time
that is 20 teams
(where does that leave Brisbane's SOUTH WEST CORRIDOR
Which is massive and exploding with infrastructure and Population

NRL to 20, PNG, NZ2 then Perth….all a bit of a risk.
AFL to 22, Tas, NT/NthA, Canberra, then quite a few choices….
Just a matter of how fast.

looks like its far from a done deal that PNG is in with the NRL coming out & saying there are some major hurdles still to overcome
the clubs are digging their heals in
The Aust Govt was offering a one off payment to the 17 clubs of 60 mill about 3.5 mill per club .. essentially a bribe.. to shut up & get on board with this deal, this money coming out of the total package of 600 mill for the 10 years
the clubs have said thats not nearly enough , demanding that up front payment plus .. plus .. another 2 mill pa for each club for 5 years so another
170 million
https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-pr ... b5fccf83dd
The Govt , have already told the NRL it won't be held to ransom & while they want this to happen it won't be at any price
The NRLs clubs have told Vlandys all the risk is held by the game & its stake holders & what the govt is offering is not enough ...
its an impasse atm
I sense both parties will walk away

unless the government is spending more on Infrastructure within Port Moresby
and towards Rugby League Academies and grassroots.
i feel you need like 3 to 4 billion

NZ2 wouldn't be a risk, they have backers and juniors as far as the eye can see.
SKY sports would pay double what they are paying for tv rights at current.
Perth be interesting.
PNG is a money PIT alot of money
AFL to 22 they would not be as easy as it sounds.

NZ Rugby League have only got 4 teams in their premier comp, none of which come from the south island.
If the Super Pacific falls apart they may gain some supporters, but the reverse may also happen. Not convinced that the ownership model the Kea’s are proposing would work in their small catchment area. But it would be interesting to see.
I don’t see the difficulty in the AFL having 22 teams, albeit team 22 could be a long term project depending on where it was located.

typical ignorant fumbler thinking it knows something about the NZ sporting scene
ya know
like it did the sporting scene in Brisbane
a Sth island NRL team playing out of Te Kaha , the soon to be completed 30K seat indoor seat indoor stadium in Christchurch will be an instant hit , their rivarly with the Nth Island Wahs ( who i see winning their first comp in the next 2 or 3 years ) will something to behold , the nursery to get players will be NZ wide , as well as Tonga , Samoa .. Fiji ..PNG & ofc Australia
Stick to failing present sides in your sport & planned future failing sides from Newcastle & Darwin

, we will continue the take over of Australasia
