Qld & Brisbanes 2nd biggest sports team after just one year

started like a bullet out of a gun last year , then injuries & suspension saw their year taper off & they finished 12th

what does 2024 hold for them ?
big signings in the shape of Flegler & Farnworth strengthen them without a shadow of a doubt , but can they replicate their start of 2023 & improve their finish

I believe they can

Phins up guys , Phins up
the afls worst nightmare

Do you think it’s and either/or situation? I think the dolphins can do well - they should - but also the Lions - they are too. A win win for both codes I think. I like Hardwick's assessment when taking about the Suns and Titans - highlighting how in the states cities have a few different sports that the city gets behind and stated it should be no different for the Gold Coast. I totally agree - why not follow both if you are on the Gold Coast. I know a few people that will go to both games. For the Gold Coast- where both codes and sports in general struggle, this is the way forward.

Lions second most supported team in Brisbane, great achievement in RL heartland.

Dolphins will struggle on and off the field.
They are not a shiny new thing anymore , so passe

the Lions are turd .. oops .. 3rd in Brisbane , a distant 3rd behind the Phins
double the number of Brisbanites will have watched the 12th placed phins (2023) today then the GF appearing Lions on Friday.

the phins were whalloped today on the field .. on it .. but its round one
off the field
115 million in cash & assets has them one of the wealthiest sporting franchises in Australia
while the Lions still rely on hand outs from the AFL , despite recent success they get almost as much as the basket case teams GWS & suns & double some of the big victorian teams

I think the rhetoric from the afl in recent years has inflamed the situation , PVL only reacts to the propaganda that is released from them
its combative & provocative as well as being delusional & inaccurate.
The comparison with the US is also not a good one

they have one football code that competes with no one in winter , yes they have NHL & basketball but they have 340 million people too
reduce their population to our size
get 2 codes in different geographic regions as strong as each other like we do & im sorry , there is a war there too

    :(/ :(/
the Phins averaged 32,250 at Suncorp & finished 12th in 2023
the Lions 29000 at the Gabba & made the Grand final in 2023

the Phins could survive without their grant from the NRL
the Lions would fold tomorrow without theirs from the AFL

just crowds ?
yea right

What was their overall average home attendance?
Take away pokies and, like a few other NRL clubs, they would be stuffed.
However they did have a very good first year.

26K or something , but they were forced off Suncorp for a while due to the womens soccer so its irrelevant, the 12th placed Dolphins would have surpassed the GF appearing Lions
why would we take away pokies ?.. are they illegal or something ? 8-[
afl clubs have them afterall

so have the lions in the past too

Excuses? The lions had more people at their game than the “2nd favourite team” dolphins intra state game at Suncorp.

It is Rugby League heartland let's not forget - I would suspect a new NRL club would do extremely well - particularly the Dolphins who bring a considerable history to their club. I think the Lion's average is extremely good considering Brisbane is RL through and through - you can't deny they have a considerable and strong base of supporters who actively follow them, I would say more so, than say the Storm havbe in Melbourne. But Storm are doing okay too. Are Lions as big as the Dolphins - maybe not - but it is hard to say given the Dolphins have just entered - but possibly they are - they should be. Are the Lions embedded in Brisbane - definitely - and in a big way. So a win win I think. Maybe the Lions and Dolphins should work together - imagine having a joint membership between the two? I'd like to see the suns and titans do this - think it would be a win win - schedule games so you can go to both. I think the days of the code wars has long since faded and this site - forum remains a lasting relic to days gone by.

Yes, he does always seem to mention the AFL in some way or another - something you rarely see from the AFL - although notably, a lot more questions to the head of the AFL about the NRL opening in Las Vegas which has been by and large reported to be an outstanding success. But it does always seem that when a discussion is reported in the NRL media that a lot of times AFL is mentioned - but the Las Vegas game did see tables turned admitedly.
