Never been convinced on the accuracy of ratings.
Is the “new” system reasonably accurate and does it include all viewing options/methods?
Can we get “all encompassing figures” for all games particularly on a national basis.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

So the AFL opening game in Sydney, absolutely smashed the NRL opening game in Vegas. The other AFL opening round games also easily beat the NRL head to head.

Top 30 Programs by daily reach
Rank Description Network Reach

6 SEVEN’S AFL: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven 2,145,000
9 SEVEN’S AFL: FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven 1,993,000
14 SEVEN’S AFL: SATURDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL Seven 1,707,000

15 SUNDAY AFTERNOON NRL LIVE -VEGAS OPENER Nine 1,686,000
21 FRIDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine 1,426,000
25 THURSDAY NIGHT NRL LIVE Nine 1,331,000

Now the following table I am hoping Wookie can explain?

Is it correct to interpret the following data as Australians watch more minutes of the AFL with a larger reach broadcast audience, whilst the NRL rates better if you only look at average audiences, over a shorter period of time and not take into account the reach audience? This data is so confusing. :hmm:

Its a story youll see a lot of this year - in general more people watch AFL for at least a minute of a broadcast than watch the NRL for at least a minute of the broadcast, which is why the AFL folks are overjoyed because it finally gives some vindication to assertions they've been making for years regarding viewers/time.

Most watched has always been a relevant stat if you count average audiences, because reach and peak numbers are rarely available.

The argument has always been that the AFL has more viewers, and we've known for years that the AFL had a wider reach due to program length.

the NRL slaughtered the afl you delusional moron .... made it look like the 2nd rate crap it is
it wasn't even close
the NRL would have cleared more then 7 million viewers for its opening round for its 8 games in Aust , the afl won't get near this figure for its 9 games this weekend

the gap is growing
somethings will never change

I’m still a bit puzzled by the ratings reporting.
There is reach, minutes, average and other stuff.
Then there is FTA, BVOD, Foxtel and or Kayo.
What channels are included in BVOD.
Does Foxtel include Kayo as sometimes Kayo figures are”NA”.
What inclusions would make reasonable figures per game…
Seems to be several ways to interpret the data and therefore determine how many watched what.
I would think average watchers would be the best indicator, but that may effect numbers where games cross over and you have channel changers.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Average viewers is the only measure worth mentioning. There is one " big dog " in town when it comes to this

Why does the NRL get smashed by the AFL in reach audience data, if it’s supposedly so popular? Shouldn’t the NRL win on all tv ratings metrics?

Its never been the only measure worth mentioning. Its been the focus of reporting because it was the primary way Oztam released data. It did not and never did accurately reflect total viewership, something which Oztam identifieid as an issue given the dominance of streaming based platforms which specifically use "views" as a measure.

Reach as a genuine matter of long term interest is rubbish, but total viewership can matter if you run a longer broadcast - although not always. Crickets reach doesnt seem to change much during the day, and neither does golf and longer games like that, but it definitely impacts AFL viewing. The reach numbers reflect this.

Which is why technically the most "watched" sport title isnt what some people think it is.

And thats why there is more than one big dog in town. The NRL dominates on average, the AFL dominates on reach. Guess which has been consistently paid more for the last 30 years.

There is FTA BVOD which is covered by Oztams VOZ report. This also covers Foxtel Go.

There is FoxBVOD which is also reported separately by Oztam, but not covered by VOZ. This only covers Kayo and Foxtel Now. It may include FoxGo.
Does Foxtel include Kayo as sometimes Kayo figures are”NA”.
FoxBVOD data isnt available until Tuesday. If the game falls on a sunday, then its not available until the following week. Both require the matches to fall in the Oztam top 20 report.
What inclusions would make reasonable figures per game…
VOZ now reports

Reach
Total TV (which includes FTA BVOD & Fox GO, but also reports it separately)

Oztam reports FoxBVOD. The average and reach of which can be added to the relative programs on VOZ.

What we arent getting without subscriber access is Foxtel set top box data.
I would think average watchers would be the best indicator, but that may effect numbers where games cross over and you have channel changers.

Thanks.
So it is nearly impossible to get an accurate figure ion total reach r Average until days or a week later (because of foxtel)?

you dribbling moron , don't you even know what reach is     :(/ :(/

NRl games go for 2 hours , while the fumbling bumbling & missing goes for 3hours

thats all reach is
a pointless metric that makes the drops & oopsies look way more relevant then it is , & not so completely embarrassed by the NRL.
no one is falling for it..
along with no state capital breakdowns suddenly no longer reported ( another measure that showed the afl in a very bad light in NSW &QLD)
this new reporting is as sus as it gets [-X [-X [-X [-( [-( [-( :^o :^o :^o :^o :^o
