AFL & NRL Footy TV Ratings - 2024

Post by Beaussie »

A new year with full national coverage in how the tv ratings are reported. For those not aware of what the changes are, the following will hopefully assist.

What is VOZ?

Virtual Australia, or ‘VOZ’, is the foundation of Australia’s new Total TV reporting standard.

VOZ brings together broadcaster content viewed on TV sets (OzTAM and Regional TAM TV ratings) and connected devices (OzTAM’s VPM service, which captures online-delivered TV content, or ‘BVOD’) in a single detailed database. Conceived and developed by OzTAM, Regional TAM and Nielsen, VOZ provides all-screen, cross-platform planning and reporting for Australia’s television industry.

VOZ provides full national coverage which includes free-to-air and subscription television channels viewed in metropolitan and regional TV markets (including overlap areas) as well as ‘Rest of Australia’. Rest of Australia refers to all other regions of Australia outside of the existing OzTAM and Regional TAM markets, including the combined TV markets of Darwin, Remote Central + Mt Isa, Griffith, Mildura, Spencer Gulf (Port Pirie/Broken Hill) and Riverland/Mt Gambier.

The ratings this year are going to be a dogs breakfast. Fox apparently aren't going to release numbers. FTA is going to be limited and focussing on reach.

Basically they're going to be useless for comparative purposes. Our dear friend bummy is gonna be out of a job. Adding up numbers is his only saving grace lololol!!

Fox STV is no longer made available via OzTAM, with a new measurement system being developed. Hopefully they will make public their audience numbers.

Acting as an alternative to Total TV measurement offered by OzTam’s VOZ measurement system, Kantar and Foxtel will deliver audience insights from more than one million Foxtel set top boxes installed across Australia, along with three million users of Foxtel’s streaming products, including BINGE and Kayo Sports.

The new service will roll out in 2024 providing quarter hour format for ingestion into agency systems and two years of comparison data back to January 2022.

In a statement responding to Foxtel’s announcement in October, national television measurement body, OzTam, was critical, asserting the move risked confusing the market.

“Introducing a new measurement service is expected to raise questions regarding reliability, comparability and integration into agencies’ buying systems. The industry has clearly stated that it wants one service to measure Total TV and that is what OzTAM provides.”

In an opinion piece written for Mumbrella, Seven West Media’s chief marketing officer, Mel Hopkins added weight OzTam’s call, describing the Foxtel system as “deeply flawed and misdirected move”.

Media buyers, however, have broadly celebrated the effort from Foxtel to move beyond traditional measurement tools.

Speaking to Mumbrella about Foxtel’s Upfront in October, Foundation head of investment, Louis Maine, said:

“Moving away from OzTAM ratings to their own Kantar ratings is a bold move but Foxtel has previously voiced some concerns that OzTAM underreports the actual viewing data they can see from their set-top box data. Having access to over 1 million devices’ actual viewing behaviour is something we are excited about.”

The afl probably " ordered : foxtel to not publish figures so as not to continue the embarrassment for them
getting murdered by another sport is not a good look for them & the ridiculous overs foxtel is paying for them ..

fact is the NRL was pulling further , & further away each year , it wasn't remotely close
RL will remain our nations most watched sport by a country mile

Dear bummy, whatever you do on twitter most assuredly does not come under the definition of 'entertain' pal. And now that counting ratings numbers won't happen you're like a juggler without the balls lolololol!!!!! You got nothing!!!

But thanks for following me bummy. It's like a reunion of two old friends. Go well pal!!!!!!!

Some ratings data on the NRL in Vegas.

Manly v Souths drew 838k on FOX/Kayo
Roosters v Souths drew a combined 1.5 million on 9/FOX/Kayo.

We have made inquires with US based television websites to source data from FS1 in the USA for it's ratings performance over in the States.

excellent numbers for the first venture into the USA

the afl gets similar numbers regularly in NSW & QLD & has had teams in those states for 42 years

NRL
563K FTA
STV .. est 500K to 600K
Total 1063mil to 1163mil

AFL
702K FTA
STV .. est 400K to 500K
Total 1102mil to 1202mil

https://tvtonight.com.au/2024/03/thursd ... -2024.html

Considering the NRL game was between 2 smaller regional teams I think the NRL would be happy & the AFL
a bit underwhelmed .
