Tis a pity, although the commonwealth games have been diminishing in importance.
Not sure they couldn't have run it, with a bit of shuffling, without spending the billions they now say is required, most of the sporting and accomodation facilities are already available.

Pretty sure it will have an impact on future sports plans.

It was the regional part of it costing the dollars o hear.

To bid for the games was a shameful political stunt and the Andrew's government has no credibility or respect **** the average thinking person.
He only got voted in due to green preferences.
For me personally, losing the games doesn't matter however those that have trained hard in particular sports will feel short changed.

I remember watching the Commonwealth games many years ago .
The swimming was on and the Australian commentators were going berserk, shouting, yelling gold gold gold for most of the finals.
Apparently we had just beaten Fiji, later on more gold for Australia, we had just beaten
Seychells island.
Plenty of quality swimming events around the world for Australian swimmers to compete against the best, same for other sports.

Not as much of a joke as Victoria's financial situation. The state is a basketcase.
