It’s a silly idea.
Not needed.
Even sillier try to copy the NRL when the only reason they do it is to boost attendances.
And 18 games?
Horseshit about boosting attendances .
Jesus Christ what planet are you on ?
So they do it because…..
They do a promotional in regional areas…no.
They do it in sydney because it would be a great attraction….no
They do it in Brisbane because of the much better crowds.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

It’s a money earner for the NRL
Bris pays for it .
What does Bris get …tourism numbers .$$$ spent in the city .
What about fans .
Because it’s all in one place fans of teams that they would rarely get to see play ..they can get to see play..
& watch any other team they want in the one place .
Something ypu can’t do without traveling if it’s a normal Fixture Rd .
I went a few yrs ago
To watch the Cowboys v Melb ..a game I could never watch so close to home without traveling to either Melb or Townsville .
Also sat through Broncos v Manly …..enjoyed it as a neutral even though I would prob never go to watch that game .
The idea is that a RL heartland fan has a rare opportunity to do that .
To see as many teams as they like in one venue.

:hmm:

why are fumblers such mongs ?
ignoramuses ?
twats ?

the NRL average crowd going into magic round last year was 15,106
130,122 attended magic round at an average of 16,295 a game

the extra 9512 fans that attended magic round dispersed amongst the 192 games of the H&A rounds
hugely inflated the season average of the NRL by

49 fans a game

based on the season average to date of 19,150
this years magic round may add nothing to the average attendance & if its wet like last year , it may infact bring the average

down ...

they just do it to boost their crowds eh ?
yea

I think not

when will a fumbler get something

anything right ....    :(/ :(/

The average crowd of lang park last year was way ahead of anything that sydney can demonstrate. The magic round included.
I would think the early success of the dolphins may well boost it this year.

Who's excited for GATHER ROUND

the SA Premier sure is
LOL
I was hoping to be there for tonight’s Swans game and the weekend and know many other AFL fans who have made the trip from other parts of the country.

My Blues supporting mate who travelled over was not happy last night. At least he can change focus today with a trip to Kangaroo Island and sightseeing tours.

Back to school: Swans star’s strange homecoming as AFL takes over Adelaide
By Vince Rugari

“We’ve literally just touched down [from Sydney] and driving through the city, you can feel the atmosphere and the buzz around town. Even this – I don’t think in my seven years at the club I’ve ever seen a captain’s run like this, with this much buzz and energy. It’s awesome.”

The great irony is that Gather Round – an idea shamelessly stolen from the NRL’s Magic Round, which, in turn, was shamelessly stolen from the English Super League’s Magic Weekend - was originally conceived as an idea to help drum up support for the code in Sydney, where the Swans and the GWS Giants remain in a constant battle for eyeballs and attention

It was diverted elsewhere for two key reasons: the Royal Easter Show, which made stadium availability in Sydney at this time of year an insurmountable challenge, and the enthusiasm of the South Australian government, which is eager to cement it as an annual Adelaide pilgrimage for footy fans, and whose initial pitch for the four-day event is said to have blown the AFL away.

The City of Churches is alive, to an extent probably not seen since the 1995 Formula One Grand Prix – the last staged in Adelaide before it was moved to Melbourne.

Six of this round’s nine games will be played at Adelaide Oval, including the Swans’ clash with the Tigers, but the historic Norwood Oval – the home of SANFL powerhouse Norwood – will host two, while a temporary venue in Mount Barker has been constructed for Saturday’s meeting between Brisbane and North Melbourne to show off the Adelaide Hills.

SA Premier Peter Malinauskas has even teased Sydney’s reputation as a fair weather sporting city by challenging Adelaide fans to get more people to Friday night’s clash than what the Swans would usually get to the SCG – although it is the only game of the nine not to sell out at this stage.
